Waititng to jump on the i7 Bandwagon.... Priceless.

Only the price of the motherboard and memory kills the deal for me. I wanted to make the i7 my upgrade but I am not rich enough to justify an almost $1000 upgrade.

Not to dis Newegg (I shop there well over 50% of the time), but if you search around you can get better deals on the CPU, mobo and maybe more.

    I had a 10% off from EBay. I bought the 920 i7 $299 and a MSI X58 PLATINUM Intel x58 $214 http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=380080657414
I messed up and purchased them separately somehow, so I was only able to apply the 10% to the i7
Total price including $11 shipping $514.98
Also I have my fingers crossed for a $75 rebate from Microsoft cash back. These items are not supported by the Microsoft cash back program but it said I was getting $75. We will see.

I am still running XP so 3GB of memory will do just fine.
    CORSAIR TR3X3G1333C9 3GB PC3-10666 (DDR3-1333) DDR3 Memory $128.99

    Total Upgrade Cost $643.97

They are still way outside of my Christmas budget of $350. I am pretty sure I am going to buy some games to hold me over until next year and apply the leftover money towards a pilot's license that I will hopefully have by summer.

Looking at your rig, I would say dont even think about it. Its not that much of an upgrade from your Q6600. Good luck on getting your wings.

I tried a system at work that had one of these and was not impressed.
    Only got a 5.9 rating in vista.I was expecting maybe a 6.5
And device manager was showing 8 cores. So it must have that hyperthreading thing to make the system think it has 8 cores

You do realize 5.9 is the highest base score you can get?

Wow, I have been playing around with the i7 for a couple hours now, and its obvious that this thing runs circles around my X2. I havnt done much and I dont OC but this thing hit 3ghz withought a thought on stock cooling. Maybe I will mess around with OCing to see what this thing can realy do when I have more time.
