    Upgrading DirecTV Reciver?

I am thinking about buying a new TV, and upgrading my DirecTV reciver. Currently I have the Standard Def Reciver, and a Standard Def CRT TV. I am looking at a 1080p TV, and also buying the reciever (both from Newegg.com). I am wondering if I will need to call DirecTV when/if I upgrade, or can I just hook them up and have them run?

not so sure it's that simple. The dish needs to be upgraded, in or der to recieve hd, and there's a charge for the hd signal. Check it out at thier Directv website.

Thanks for the replies. My house already has HD DirecTV coming into it, however not in my room. I guess I'll have to check with DTV and see what happens.

    Thanks again.

okay since i know alot about this ill throw my 2 cents in...

hd dish is a oval disc with 2-3 channel on the arm extended from the base of the dish
the hd dish supports whole home and multiple signals

circle dish's they started with were for only one receiver and one tv and you would split them to get picture on another tv

if you want to upgrade to hd get the receiver and the tv call direct tv or log in to there site and change the package.. might need a new access card for the account to register the receiver and i would get insurance so you dont waste money on a receiver if it breaks

any issues with trying that just go thru direct tv they sent me a new receiver in a day of me letting them know it was fried and it was a dvr edition
