Re: DreamCatcher’s WC Overclocking “Questions & Issues”

Okay here's the skinny!! Got home and there had been a power glitch so was running around trying to see what clients got busted! My story on that will show up over at the pond!

Powered DC up with 1 stick of the OCZ and reset the vdmm to 1.9V, shut down and put in the second stick of OCZ fired it up and............ same thing. Hummmmmm, okay move the mem from slots 1 & 2 and placed in 3 & 4. Bingo, Houston we have lift off! NOTE: Slots 1 & 2 are where the G. Skill were running. Mean anything??

I've reset everything in the bios with Vcore @ 1.45V and vdmm @ 1.9V also made the following changes to the mem settings = bold / italics :

    DRAM Configuration:
    DRAM Clock:...........533
    TwTr:...................3
    Trfc 0 for DIMM1:...105ns
    Trfc 1 for DIMM2:...105ns
    Trfc 2 for DIMM3:...105ns
    Trfc 3 for DIMM4:...105ns
    Twr:…………….…......6
    TrTp:…………….….....2
    Trc:………………........24
    Trcd:………………......5
    Trrd:……………….......5
    Trp:…………………......5
    Tras:……………….......18
    CAS Latatency:......5

Tried to boot at 300FSB but it would not so went back to 250 and did a couple of SPi with ClockGen. I have now booted up at 275FSB and will do 4M runs SPi "until" then back off and do 8M. If I boost anyting 1.475V will be the max for vcore and 1.95V for mem (I hear ya GM! ) So will report back later.

For you yes! Gonna play with clkgen for a bit as it seems I can't even get close to where I was! May have to drop the change for the g. skill replacement as if I remember I tested three set of mem last spring and the OCZ came in a distant 3rd to the g. skill and corsair!

Re: DreamCatcher’s WC Overclocking “Questions & Issues”

The am2 is a 6000+ 2x1g not an opti but the next best thing at 14x229. So the memory runs at 957.5 which is a good match for the 1000 memory. With your 9 multi it could be use ful (by the way that's the fastest 9x speed Ive seen). Hard to calculate your memory speed with the 9 multi, the default divider is 10 but it gets screwier with dividers. Depends on that calculation whether it is useful or not. If you replace the cpu get at least a 10x, makes life a lot easier (on the board as well) It's obvious now why the chip temps were so high, that sucker was working!! Probably getting 140 watts through that cpu, no wonder it's hot!! Not ideal for an little box, but you did a fine job of budget overclocking!!

Switch channels on the ocz and see what happens.

Best time I've seen on an a64 uddarts!! (ps see my sig!!! ) Running Linux for a folding box on mine and I don't really remember what settings I'm using. It's an 180 so I'm probably using 12x and 333 and some gskill 3200

Re: DreamCatcher’s WC Overclocking “Questions & Issues”

Gotta go do some honey dos so here is the short story (long one coming soon! )

Vcore = 1.425 / Vdmm = 2.0 / 327FSB = 2.94GHz and this survived a 6 hr run of OCCT. Unfortunatly I forgot to save a screenie half way through so you won't see "the proof". I do believe though that the AUX Temp which I has associated to the NB was like 54 - 56C. A major improvement but may require more work. Thoughts? I sure at a minimum may need to do an application of TM as this is what was under the one I took off my smoked n-View. More on this sublect will be covered in the work log later tonight from work as I'm doing a double!

Also of major interest is the fact the board overvolts...... 1.45 Vcore is showing up in all of the monitoring software I have as 1.50V+ and it is the same up and down the values. It seems to run about .025V - .05V higher than what is set in the bios. Sooooooooo that means my trips at 1.55 were pushing 1.6 so no wonder things were smoking!

I will leave you with my best 8M run of Spi with ClkGen (notice the vcore value - supposed to be 1.425!)........

Also had another power glitch that put me behind schedule this morning.........need to rearrange the UPS and looks like now need to find a way to cover the modem and router power as they keep getting knocked "off line"!

Next time you are in the bios take a look at the voltages there.

Yes some paste will be an improvement over the thermal pads!!

Note that the chip temp sensor is not in the chip but on the board nearby so that reading can be off from what is going on actually. with the heatpipe setup there is no air movement there and most likely reads higher then actual. A liuttle breeze there will most likely drop the temp a bunch without reallly effecting actual.

cpu-z is showing 1.448, pretty close to 1.45v!! Don't know what your bios setting is thogh.

Glad things are runing again. Is this the ocz single channel????

Dual Channel, the big thing is it wouldn't run dual in slots 1&2 so think not only were the g. skill fried may have done something to the mem slots (1&2) they were sitting in.

Off to do honey do road running and then in for the double!

You mean the voltage you ran through the G-Skill?? (the English language can cause so many repeated problems when not used correctly)

Now that I'm not so much in the rush I may be able to clarity!!

First off, NO the OCZ is running in its "middle of the road" factory range of 2.0V. The G. Skill was supposed to be at 2.4 but some how managed to set it to 2.5, which equals toast. As a side note it was running the 2.4 when I had it on air and believe the residual air movement from the CNPS-8700 helped keep it "cool". Sadly when I over volted the things the only air coming anywhere close was from the front mounted 80mm about 3-1/2" away.

The G. Skill had been running dual in mem slots 1 & 2 when I toasted them and it appears those slots may have sustained damage. I say this because I could not get the OCZ to run in those slots. Had to move them to 3 & 4 to get them to run dual.....only 1 OCZ stick would work in 1 & 2.

    Well back to work.............

According to newegg that gskill is only rated for 2.0-2.1v

Yep had a major cranial infarction on this one and don't know why the max was stuck in my head was the min! With good cooling though it was "comfortable at 2.4. Oh well in 3 - 4 years of trying to overclock, the g. skill is the only major component I've fried! Unless you want to count the bios chip in Kermit!!

Yes, and the more I think about it the fan is a 40mm (is there such a thing as a 50mm?). the mounting holes are a nominal 2-1/4" as the NB mounting holes are a nominal 2-1/8".

Answering these on the fly from work, so.......
