    7600GS enough?

I think im gonna make a little HTPC for my room, just for TV,movies and music.

Will my old 7600GS video card be enough?Or should I buy something newer?

    Re: 7600GS enough?

I just built a HTPC for our bedroom as well.

    19" Acer LCD Wide
    Intel E6300 (1.86Ghz)
    2x 1Gb DDR2
    Asus P5L-MX
    MSI 6600LE
    Asus TV Tuner

I pulled the fan off the LE and replaced it with this mongo CoolerMaster Passive setup. That was $15 bucks, and the TV tuner was $24. The rest of it was free - parts I scalped from trash bin bound old systems that my customers leave to me to recycle. Even re-used an old Altec Lansing 3 piece someone dropped off. I wasnt going to take it, but thought, meh, I'll use em as nice bench speakers. Now their at home too, haha.

    And recycle I did.

And, yea, I would assume your 7600 is teat hair faster then my LE lol, and my LE plays DVDs fine. Watched Hancock and The Dark Knight last night.

It's fine for regular DVDs. If you want to watch HD content and decode 1080p h264 files, you're better off with an 8000 series card, or a powerful CPU.

CPU would probably be a 2.5 brisbane

I read the min system requierments for blu ray or high def is a 7600GT

But I have a GS model. So im wondering if its still enough.

I remember I could OC this thing to near GT speeds. What If i did that?

    Re: 7600GS enough?

    Does your model support PureVideo?

A Brisbane won't be able to handle any 1080p content. 720p might be doable.

Uhh... brain fart. I read Brisbane, and I thought Barton. Never mind. I'm running a 4850e myself.

    Re: 7600GS enough?

The 7600gs should support purevideo HD 1. It allows some offloading of HD decoding to the GPU, but not full h264 acceleration. I think you're OK.

    Re: 7600GS enough?

In other words my CPU would have to do that work? Not the GPU?

On a higher end card GPU would do it then.

Bleh anyways I could care less what part does it.CPU will probably be 2.5ghz brisbane. Will that take care of it with a 7600gs?

RAM im thinking of putting 2 gigz

    Re: 7600GS enough?

do you have a board yet? I suggest the geforce 8200 based boards. You can disable the onboard graphics and use your 7600GS. If that doesn't work, you can use the onboard GPU which does support PureVideo HD 2. If that doesn't work, you can run hybrid SLI
