    Hey Meridian,

I concur with your ubuntu/kubuntu reviews

For your review of ubuntu 8.04, any comments about firefox 3.0 beta being included? I had a heck of a time downgrading it to firefox 2.x.

I might be wrong because this was a few months ago and 3.0 final came out after i had downloaded the 8.04 + firefox beta.

Not sure I understand the question? I don't actually know which version of Firefox it had when I installed, and I don't know if it installed any update to it. I also didn't really do any serious testing: I was certainly using it, but not heavily. So I probably can't help you here I'm afraid. I will find big bugs, but minor ones may get missed as I don't do extensive testing.

Let me rephrase it: did the ubuntu you installed come with firefox 3 final or 3 beta? When i installed it it came with beta and at that time, there were posts about how buggy the beta was. I just thought if the distro still came with beta you might want to flag that.

    Re: Good Job Meridian!

Well, Ubuntu just upgraded my FF3 again last night. It is now FF3.0.1 so its no longer the Beta version.

So if you were to reinstall Ubuntu 8.04 and it still had FF3 Beta, it'll upgrade FF to the latest for you the first time you update the system.

IIRC, there were few changes between the late betas, the RC's and the final release. Some distro's shipped with a late beta or RC of FF3 and didn't bother updating until FF3.0.1 was released as that was the first update with security changes that affected the Linux platform. Again, IIRC, RC2 and Final were identical, and the main differences between the last beta and RC's mainly affected the Mac OS X platform.

I believe the current version of Ubuntu is now technically 8.04.01? I assume it has a proper version of FF.

Good Job. Ubuntu 8.04 is indeed the mutt's nuts, or the beez knees

I suggest downloading Ubuntu tweak and installing. It enables Open as Admin, and open terminal menus in Nautilus, resolving two annoyances.

Intrepid Ibex( 8.10) is now the latest version.
I just installed it a couple of days ago on a Gigabyte M61P-S3 that was gathering dust on a shelf in my office.
It will replace my old Abit AN7 that was running Gutsy (7.10).

This is what I'm typing on right now.

I had to temporarily borrow the 6400 BE from my Abit AX78 (laying on it's side) to update to the latest BIOS since the BIOS that was on the board wouldn't let it POST with an 8750 tri core CPU.

    Re: Good Job Meridian!

Had 8.10 briefly, then moved over to Mint 6.0 . Version 5.0 (based on 8.04) was poor, but these seems as good as it's daddy, Ubuntu 8.10. At least I trhink it does as I'm not really had a chance to play. Still suffers from the same issue of Ubuntu-based distros of not playing well with Windows networks: it can see them, but refuses to show contents of the machines unless you manually set up a share to each drive in turn.
