Synaptic offers two levels of termination. You can mark for removal, or mark for complete removal which will also clean out residual config files. You can even clean out the apt cache to remove uneeded packages:

    Code:
    sudo apt-get clean

    Re: anyone try ubuntu 9.04?

I've not tried Ubuntu, but I did try Kubuntu. However, I gather the bug I hit is common to both: some apps simply won't start when you activate them. I seem to remember that you have to hack a tty file or something (it got far to technical for me), but it was annoying enough for me to get rid of t.

I'm now using Mint 7, which I strongly recommend - it even properly detects my Windows machines, which earlier Mint and Ubuntu versions did not. The bad news is that the option to allow a Root account has now gone unless you do it the hard way.

    Re: anyone try ubuntu 9.04?

    sudo apt-get clean
That purges the apt cache not the config files.

The proper command to remove the program and its config files is as follows.

    apt-get remove --purge x
Have to be careful as debconf can sometimes throw a hissy fit with clean up scripts. ( Which then requires manually scrubbing a lot of files and configs.)

Bryan, I corrected a typo with your sudo apt-get clean command. I assume you didn't mean to type sudo apte-get clean. Hope you don't mind.

9.04 Has been rock solid for me, trying the 9.10 alphas and beta for a while and no problems with it at all. I love it

    Re: anyone try ubuntu 9.04?

So far I enjoy Ubuntu for everything. I still have my windows pc as a secondary pc, because I find myself needed it often. I am trying to phase it out though.

Sam I was like you a few years back, but then Windows went for a complete dump and I never bothered to repair it. Life has been good ever since.

been using ubuntu since 8.04. Now using 9.10. Re-installed windows XP 3 times in a single year, that was enough. Went to ubuntu never went back. I cant stand using windows anymore.
