    Re: Temps of a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+?

Ok, I will give that a try after I get home from work today.

    Thanks.

to test the cpu, i would start with one set of memory in dual channel. that can be verified with cpuz.

monitor the temps. as long as no errors occur and prime doesn't shut down the test on the offending core, then it's not running too hot.

later add the other set and give it another go. at some point memory86 might be in order.

I have been running Prime95 since 5:00PM ET yesterday (so it had been running for over 13 hours before I left for work this morning. No errors so far. Although I forgot to remove 2 of the 4 memory modules. I am running with 4 sticks of Crucial memory that I ran memtest86+ on that didn't have errors on them. I also left CoreTem running and both cores run have been staying under 59C so far.

    good news, bad news?

sounds like the cpu/mem combo and temps aren't the issue.

exactly what is causing the lockups.......... is the question.

Well I haven't had a lockup yet since reinstalling the HSF with the new thermal paste I got (OCZ FreeZe) and installing the new PC P&C Silencer 910 PSU. So after I get home today and if Prime95 is still running ok I will stop that and see how things are with the system using it for regular tasks and such over the next few days.

Just got home from work and I stopped Prime95 just 10 minutes short of it running a full 24 hours with no errors. Here is a screen capture of my desktop...

Perhaps the new PSU and or redoing the HSF with the new Thermal Compound did the trick? I will continue to use the computer for a few days and see what happens.
