Whats the current best bang for the buck folding wise?

Obviously I've been outta the loop for a while now.

Whats the current best bang for the buck folding wise? GPU still or has some new wonder client come along I'm not aware of.

I'm really thinking of jumping back into the mix. Just wondering whats potentially worth it as I'm kinda considering making an egg purchase soon and doing some preventative maintance (cough cough upgrades ) haha.

    Still Gpu Folding...
    In various pricepoints:
    GTS250 512meg
Good price, good ppd, most need only 1 6pin connector
    GTX260/216
Was the bang for buck card until recently, but as Britgeezer found, the price for the best models (216 shaders and 55nm core) were only slightly less than the new:
    GTX275
"Detuned" GTX285 for gaming performance, but not a lot of difference in Folding ppd

Provided that is, that Stanford get's the current Gpu server "issues" sorted soon...

Relatively happy with my GTX 275 but it slows down during PC use way more than the GTX 260 when running GPU2.

I my view and if your power supply can handle it, two instances of GPU2 on 2x used 8800 GTS is the best bang / buck, but if not a GTX 275 (2x 5500 ish vs. 7900 ish) will work well.

I get pxxxd off that I need to turn off GPU2 to use the PC (my Win 7 test mule) and forget to turn it back on

Its time they fixed the driver to be more polite like SMP and fixed the server issue

Do you notice the same lag regardless of The Wu it's working on ?

Under win 7, I only see lag when running video applications. Watching TV or mpeg's is damn near impossible with the gpu client running, regardless of the WU in process. I can game fine though with the GPU client running!

For me web browsing or video is hopeless. Like Mr. Raider, I can play a game with little or no problem.

Doesn't matter which kind of WU I'm working on.

Interesting perhaps but my GPU2 experience:

Best GTX 260 with XP Pro - least time lag of the bunch.
Middle 8800 GTS (G92) with XP Pro
Worst GTX 275 with Win 7-64 and the 185-85 Nvidia drivers. Web browsing is the worst problem.

    Edit all use 185.85 drivers

Noticed with my 260 that I can't really web browse or most things very well if it involves any video at all. End up pausing the gpu until I'm done. Havent tried gaming and folding as a friend of mine told me his GPU would take a major hit when gaming during folding. Matter of fact that is why he runs pre-180 drivers.

    Must be my setup,
Win7/64 rig is running 2 9800GX2's (4 x G92 cores), and my GTX295 is running under Xp, havn't really noticed much slowdown, web browsing may be a little less "snappy" while Gpu Folding, but fairly minor,
Both rigs have fast Cpu's and ram though (Win7, i7 920 @ 4 gig, Xp, QX9650 @ 4 gig), maybe that helps minimise it for me ?
