I would look at this one, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128378 it's a 790x chipset, so only supports crossfire in x8 (pcie2 is makes it the same bandwidth as pcie x16)
You save 40 bucks and get all the rest of the features I got the am2+ version and it works flawlessly.

SOme people have had good success running 2x 4770 in crossfire and getting better performance than the 4870. Personally, I frown on dual card setups. too much headaches, space issues, and not all games support it.

As for mobos, I have migrated to GB myself after 6 years of using MSI. MSI just hasn't kept pace with the competition in terms of features. They just added USB flashing for BIOS this year!

Id go with the pII x2 550 BE for a proc and try to unlock the other 2 cores
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103680 $102
Then with the ASUS M4A78 it ends up being a combo price of 161.99
Really dont need a DDR3 config. You could always do that if you want though. I'd reccomend the ASUS board for that as well. I used to be an MSI guy but ive had 3 of their newer boards fail recently and their layouts have gotten to the point where it seems like theyre trying to make them as bad as possible.
Then for ram id get Mushkin DDR2 1066
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820146785
    which is 72.99
Again you could get a ddr3 setup if you want but from what ive read peformance difference is minimal. I really dont reccomend OCZ for memory. I went through 4 yes 4 sets of their DDR2 1066 reaper ram before getting a set that worked at all (and it still wouldnt play nice with my mushkin). OCZ seems to be like a roll of the dice brand. It either works great for a long time or it doesnt at all.

That puts you at $235 leaving you $415 for graphics PSU and case or whatever else. Id probably get either nvidia 250 (really good deal right now) or a 260. Probably a 550-650 watt psu of good brand. From looking around nvidia seems to be on top for value on almost every price level right now.

While some have been lucky and managed to unlock the extra cores, DON'T buy one with the idea it'll happen. Love my PII X3 720 for what it is and no I wasn't able to unlock anything.

Tisk tisk dan where you been?

Yup if you have a mobo with 790GX chipset you MIGHT be able to unlock extra cores.Id love to try it on mine but I have 790FX chipset which doesnt have the ACC option needed to do this.

I dont think thats a good idea.
Sure AMD may be doing it cause they think they are losing sales of the quad cores due to this. But if you think for a second, why would they. How many people buy an X3 or X2 thinking "ohh yeah Im gonna unlock it for sure"
The way I see it is that if you can unlock it then cool,if not then ohh well.

Re: $650 to Spend Whats the best deal? AMD or Intel

Thanks Much Guys the info is a great tool to guide me. I have searched each of the three mobos I'm looking at.
    ASUS M4A79T Deluxe
    Gigabyte GA-MA790FXT-UD5P
    MSI 790FX-GD70
    http://www.neoseeker.com/resourcelink.html?rid=175067
I have found a lot of info about each. I cant not find a review of the MSi board that has it losing to any other board. I realy wanted to find the down side to MSi. I have used Msi with good and bad results. I never got the OC I was looking for with the MSi.
The Giga board I read good and fair reviews Same with the Asus.
When all three are reviewd together the MSi wins by a very small amount. I would call this a 3 way tie. Has anyone used one of these boards and was able to overclock without pulling there hair out??
At this point I'm stuck on the Giga and MSi board. As I read the Asus is a great board but can be unstable. I read negs reviews on the Egg about he Gigabyte and MSi but cant find any reviews to back them up.
I will buy one of these 3 boards I now looking for others. I'm still open to what Ram Video or CPU.

    Thanks Guys
    I know I've being a pain Sorry.

Stan that is incorrect this is a major decision and you have questions, nothing unusual about it! The guys here are informative and glad to help...... that's why I can be a "pain" too! LOL

Keep the questions coming and then let us know how the build goes.

I know it isn't the exact board you're looking at, but I have a TA790GX 128m, and i've had no issues with it at all. This is my first gigabyte and i'm very pleased, I wouldn't hesitate buying from them.

I can recommend GSkill memory. Good price and excellent performance You usually can select a variety of speed timings and voltages at the top end.
