Strange. I received CoD yesterday but the card isn't scheduled to arrive until tomorrow. It definitely shipped from CA for me while most stuff does ship from NJ. Doesn't really matter though as I probably wouldn't install it until the weekend anyway.

Back on topic - the deal is still available for anyone who wants it

My card is shipping from La Puente, CA. Game is shipping from Memphis, TN.

I think I'm going to compare my old 7900GS with the new 9600GSO using 3DMark05 and the Valve Source video stress test. Only problem is I can't remember what Valve game has the stress test. Anyone know? I thought it was Half-Life 2 but I don't see it in the menu. Maybe Counter Strike Source?

    Cool thanks.

So my card arrived today. Haven't installed it yet but I was surprised at how beefy the heatsink is. Hopefully it will cool well without being too loud. It doesn't contact the memory but it looks like they will get some cooling through the heatsink fins.

Default fan speed is very quiet. I couldn't hear it over the CPU fan even with the side of the case open.

for small resolutions this card is fine with most games i think..except crysis and the like

farcry2 is playable on a g80 and up decently at ~1600
even at 1920x1080 its ok...so you dont need to spend more than 100 bucks these days to get a good deal. 50, well thats another thing
personally i see two alternatives : higher end for gaming and uber low end for display..anything inbetween tis fodder, +-

Did some comparison benchmarks with my old 7900GS and the new 9600GSO ...
    Code:
                                      7900GS 9600GSO Increase

    3DMark05 7476 12880 + 72%
    CSS stress test (No AA+Trilinear) 136 fps 186 + 37%
    CSS (4x MSAA+Trilinear) 29 fps 175 +503%
    CSS (No AA+16x AF) 123 fps 184 + 46%
    CSS (2x MSAA+16x AF) 57 fps 178 +212%
    CSS (4x MSAA+16x AF) 28 fps 160 +471%
    CSS (8x MSAA+16x AF) N/A 140
    CSS (8x CSAA+16x AF) N/A 152
    CSS (16x CSAA+16x AF) N/A 148
    CSS (16xQ CSAA+16x AF) N/A 102
    * CSS = Counter Strike Source video stress test run at 1680x1050 with all video option on High and VSync disabled.

I didn't realize how much of a hit the 7900GS takes when AA is enabled. The 9600GSO is much less affected by it.

I can confirm that the fan runs very quiet. Even when running video benchmarks it doesn't seem to get louder. It's close if not entirely inaudible inside the case.

The only negative so far is the length of the card. It's about 3/4 inch longer than my 7900GS and because of the PCI-E power connector at the end of the card was difficult to fit. In my case the 9600 is right up against my hard drives with the PCI-E power connector literally in between two hard drives. I could move the hard drives but I would lose cooling of the hard drives and the surface of the video card from the front 80mm fan.

Having only 384 MB of memory may be a negative. I'm really not sure how many games need more than that but I wonder because there are many 1GB card available.

Overall I'm very happy with the quality and increase in performance I got from a card that cost me $42 shipped.

    Len,

The video memory is really only going to come in to play at higher resolutions, and/or when you crank AA/AF.
