If the specs say the seek or RAT time is supposed to be x.x, whatever, it damn well better be within reasonable deviation for that drive. If not, its ass gets kicked outa here. I want what I paid for, especially for a raptor!!

Have you checked western digitals warranty to see if the warranty is still in effect for that drive.

Re: 74gb raptor random access is over 10 msecs

Access time is about 1 ms too slow.
    Are those 740ADFD's??
Are they both the same suffix?
CPU utilization is significantly higher than normal.
Please re-run the test in the long test mode.

That is all I can say other than that STR looks real good/normal.

Its just these shitty access time bugs cropping up that have me VERY bugged.

Ill leave the long running mode test overnight.

I think I do have the ADFD models, just dont remember how to check that, plz tell me how. There used to be thing on my taskbar that showed the RAID array composition but I dont know what happened to it so I cant see the exact modles of drive.

Re: 74gb raptor random access is over 10 msecs

If you have a WD740ADFD-xxxxx then you have the latest (and last) generation Raptor.

ADFD denote the last generation, yours is the latest, and last for the 74 gig models. First/Previous generation was GD

the -xxxx denotes other things like firmware version, minor production changes, etc.

Sorry man, I have no experience with that. Sorry man

BUT, I'm confident you DO have the ADFD versions. The GD version didn't perform quite as well and I'd see that in the STR. Yours is up there where it belongs. Look in the device manager or disk management. It usually shows enough to determine what you really do have.
