SSD Time Yet?

I kinda want TRIM with RAID.

I don't believe that is going to happen in the real near future.

I am disappoint. Oh well. At least there is software that can optimize the RAID once in a while like, months. I found programs that will optimise such as PerfectDisk 10 or Diskeeper with hyperfast. A free one is called Auslogics Disk Defrag. However, I wouldn't run dem often because can shorted life of SSD prematurely so I do not want that for us. Should last a long time.

just got my Intel x25-m 80gb G2 yesterday.

upgraded the firmware to 02HD with trim support and cloned my raptor os drive to it and was amazed when win7 started up in less than half the time it took on the raptor.

everything is quite snappy, firefox is still a bit slow but i have a ton of addons.

during startup the slowest thing to start is steam and it's on an old fashioned mechanical drive :P

it's amazing how fast all my gadgets and system tray apps just start right up.

now i can't wait till storage capacities increase enough at a lot enough price point to get one that can hold all my steam games.

i'd say it's SSD time.

I know OCZ has new stuff coming so would expect all of the manufactures will have also.

25nm flash chips means higher capacities at a lower price, and sata 6gb to allow drives to reach their full potential.

Very fast loading possibly for us. I notice. On broadband, web browsing page/web page content loading and things on desktop, loading applications time. If is what you want and get then is SSD time.

Do not forget that putting your web cache and your Temp Internet Files on an SSD shortens it's life... I just put my Firefox and IE Caches and Temp Internet Files on my Caviar Green, but the app remains on the SSD and the backbone for the app still loads as fast.

Used my X25-V SSD for 5 days and total host writes now total 48.91GB (With a 28.3GB cloning operation in there too)

BTW, I don't plan on owning that many Steam games so I just have Steam on my SSD (have L4D and TF2 and I still have around 9GB free space to spare)

i'm keeping all my temp directories along with my pagefile on the ssd. i think people are being overly worried about drive longevity.

truth is we don't really have solid numbers on how long the drives will last. i know i have 3 years on mine under warranty, and in that time i'll honestly probably replace it. not to say i won't use the ssd anymore but it won't be a drive i use for my os anymore, or at least it'll be relegated to a machine i use less.

not to mention in 3 years these drives are likely to be near dirt cheap, and an 80gb replacement will cost next to nothing, be much faster and probably offer even better life expectancy.

by the time my ssd is starting to lose write cycles it won't matter is my prediction. in the mean time i'm going to use it to its fullest potential

Well, I move my Temp directories to my Caviar to save space. Mine is after all only 40GB.

As for my Jmicron that's now in my Tablet PC, that is the machine which I keep my Temp directories on the SSD.

With a Intel X25-m G2 I get a 7.7 on disk transfer rate on the performance Information in win7.

This is with a 2 year old Asus p5k-e mobo, from the top down starting with the processor, 6.5, 6.8, 6.5, 6.5, 7.7 on primary hard disk.

I built a p7p55d with a I5 processor for my mother, who could care less about any of this, but I do her books for her and I could not stand the slowness of a older p4p800 mobo so I upgraded her, now she does not have a SSD, but rather 2 raptors in Raid 0 and her score for the SSD is a 5.2 for the primary hard disk, everything else is a 7.2 or higher.

Here's my point, my older p5k-e is just as fast as the new build with the I5 and the p7p55d board and I don't notice a difference in performance from my p5k-e, but I can't wait to put a SSD drive in her computer (she's 78 years old) and a hard sell to convince her to put a SSD in her computer, thing is, I would like to see the performance gain in that board after installing a SSD drive.

The difference is outstanding, and I can’t wait until the prices drop for the newer SSD so I can install one in her computer. I’m jealous.

I've got the ASUS U3S6 USB 3.0/SATA 6G combo card on the way. Ordered it on Friday, and will probably get a SATA 6G SSD this fall.
