You won’t regret it. these ssd’s are truly amazing. Even though we are in the infancy of these drives they are truly amazing.

I await to see what these SSD's do in the long run. So far I am amazed by the performance.

    Opinions Kingston SSD, Jmicron

I'm tempted after reading ryans review:

    http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product...-137-_-Product

    Opinions?

My desktop uses a WD raptor, so that would stay the same, but it could easily go in my laptop which uses a 5400rpm drive. It runs Ubuntu, so the fact that it doesn't degrade without trim is a plus.

Are you sure that is the Gen 2 SSD with JMicron JMF618? Seems it could be Gen 1 or Gen 2. How to know the difference in the link?

    Re: SSD Time Yet?

I have the ASUS U3S6 USB3/SATA6 PCI Express controller card coming. The card will be here on Friday, and has a USB 3.0 controller chip on it controlling two USB 3.0 ports, and a SATA 6G controller controlling two SATA 6G ports.

I don't trust the JMICRON 322 or JMICRON 363 chips on my motherboard for anything.

I might get the Crucial M225 128GB SSD over summer. This sucker caught my eye, and from the reviews I found on the net, will suit me just fine.

Aw dang, looked at Crucial's website, and they have a SATA 6G SSD I will probably get and it has a price tag of $499.99.

This sucker would be perfect for the SATA 6G controller I've got coming.

Very fast. I wonder why need all that transfer rate. Maybe the OS and application software on your computer is working busy so need more performance.

    Re: SSD Time Yet?

Decided I to get Crucial's 6G SATA SSD in the summer, to go with the SATA 6GB controller card from ASUS that will be in on Friday.

I like having a spacious drive and a 40 to 80GB SSD won't do any good, as most of the space will be taken up by the OS, and utilities essential to the OS, as well as my bad habit of taking screenshots from Sacred 2 and storing them on the boot drive.

When I'm ready for Crucial's 6GB SATA drive in 128GB capacity, I will have the local computer shop I deal with order it for me.

I agree. If I can't load my games on the SSD, what's the point. 128GB is minimum for me.

i'd have to ask what the point of putting your games on the ssd is. the only thing to be gained is faster load times. in many mp games including BFBC2 i am often the first guy in the map and my games are installed on a barracuda 7200.10 500gb HDD, far from fast even compared to newer hdds.

ssd would certainly be awesome to have games on, but personally i don't see it as make or break. as long as the drive is big enough for windows and everything else i install it seems worth it.

literally the only thing not installed on my ssd is steam and fraps (for the rare occasions i want to record in game footage)

128gb would actually be too small to hold all my currently installed steam games :\

as soon as much larger ssds are available cheaply i will most certainly be moving steam over to an ssd though, in the meantime i'm greatly enjoying the overall system responsiveness the ssd has added. i've said it before, it's the most immediately noticeable upgrade i've made in years.

For me the Crucial 128GB SATA 6G SSD will be my new boot drive when I get it.

That's a big deal in single player games, since I'm wasting the most valuable resource there is, my time!
