Favorite Online Stores To Buy Computer Parts?

    Hi all,

As the title says, what are your favorite places to buy computer parts from?

I'm trying to find the Intel Q6600 quad processor and I had one at newegg, but as soon as I finally decided on all of the parts for my system the processor is now a deactivated item.

I've also checked ZipZoomFly but they are sold out and MicroCenter doesn't seem to carry the Q6600. I also checked a few other more obscure sites that google brought up and they were sold out as well. I'd like to order from someplace that is reliable and has a good reputation (my last computer that I got from an obscure site did not go well at all).

    Thanks,
    -tkr

If I'm not mistaken, the Q6600 was discontinued during the first quarter of this year; your options are a) buying used, b) paying a premium for a factory-sealed equivalent, or c) going with a Q9550 (lower multiplier and Vcore, but it's a 45nm fab)

Ok, I finally found one on thenerds.net (they had ONE in stock) and they had good reviews, so I bought it. It was $30 more than on newegg with the shipping costs, but at least I got one.... Well, hopefully I did, because after I bought it they still show one in stock, so hopefully someone didn't already beat me to it.

I would have bought it used. If you bought it to OC, then make sure you get the GO? or DO? stepping. Well, one of those is the better one to OC and will yield you higher overclocks.

    Would a Q6700 do you well? http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...372&CatId=2758

I buy from there a lot as Newegg never used to ship to Canada. Also Tigerdirect has many branches that I can go in and shop at as well.

I just called and canceled my order for the Q6600.

    You should have either:

A)Get an i7 920 if you must insist on intel
B)Go with an AMD Phenom II

That was the first system I looked into, but they were quite a bit more than what I wanted to spend at this time.

I don't know, pretty much everyone I've talked to has said to go with Intel. I'm actually looking forward to getting an Intel as the last two AMD systems we bought (my PC and the family PC) had problems right out of the box.

The Phenom II X4 950 from what I've seen has very similar specs to the q9600, at about $199.

I'm thinking about getting one unless I can get a deal on an Intel processor.

    all the above plus

    5. Jab-tech (1 day standard shipping for me)
    6. Lately I have found ZipZoomFly to actually beat the egg on prices on some items and have them in stock where the egg didn't. Used to buy a lot from them. Seem to be more competetive lately.

    I love www.directron.com , www.xoxide.com , and of course newegg.

Also, AMD = much higher TDP, less performance/watt. If you don't mind the excess heat, they're great.

If I had a penny for everytime I hear someone say this.
What do you mean by out of the box?As in you bought a dell or hp with an AMD processor and they had problems?Did you pinpoint the problem to the AMD processor itself or was it something else like a shitty psu or whatever other shitty component those oems use to save money? You cant blame the motor of a car if you have an accident due to shitty tires, can you? Catch my drift?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_Design_Power

Wikipedia puts it well. A 90 and 100W TDP between different manufacturers, not so big a difference. A 95 and 145W TDP, however...
