I try to avoid them too, but I bought AM2 two weeks after it came out, a Phenom 9500 1 months after it came out, and a pII 920 3 weeks after it came. I am sooo weak

Intel has too many sockets at the moment, and who knows if we'll have another socket 775 fiasco where the early boards couldn't run the later 45nm and/or quad chips.

I would go AMD right now. They're a bit slower overall, but the BE can be competitive when clocked up to 3.8ghz. Intel smokes AMD in video encoding, but I find I'm limited by the speed of my DVD and hard drives.

Anything over $200.00 is too rich for my blood right now, as I don't need the absolute expensive and fastest chip out there for me to be able to decent gaming. I know enough about how to tweak Windows, and which settings in the bios to use, without overclocking anything to get really decent gaming performance.

No offense against overclockers intended with this.
