hal.dll missing during XP install on Asus EEE PC 2G Surf
So, my wife has gotten sick of the default Xandros Linux on her Asus EEE PC 2G Surf laptop and wanted XP installed on it.
Well, we picked up a Crucial Gizmo 2GB flash drive so we could make a bootable drive to use for installing Windows from. I've created a custom install with nLite along with slipstreaming SP3 and used a USB flash drive tool to make the drive bootable.
Where I run into an issue is during installation after the reboot following the text part of XP setup. An error that hal.dll is missing comes up instead of booting to the GUI portion of the install. I've tried replacing the hal.dll file with a copy from my main box and I still run into the same issue.
Re: hal.dll missing during XP install on Asus EEE PC 2G Surf
Well, I did try that, but it didn't solve the problem.
What I did do on the time that worked (after some research) was the following:
-Use a different USB port
-Delete every partition on the hard drive before formatting and install;
and, for good measure
-Format the drive with NTFS
The last one was optional, but I didn't think it would hurt.
Now my wife's happy she can easily update Java and Flash.
