Dual 5770s in crossfire, little worried about amps on 12V line

Ill be getting a couple of Asus 5770s soon. According to guru3d forums the min power required for crossfire 5770s is 600W and 55 amps on 12v line.

I have a Huntkey Titan 700W PSU (rebranded as Rocketfish) with a combined total of 52 amps on 12v line ( 18A+18A+16A)

Should this be ok? Or am I gonna have to buy a new PSU?

Im a bit confused after doing some research on this PSU. (only reason I got it was cause I got it for 60 bucks instead of usual 160 price)

    According to this review picture:

    http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/556/6

    It has four 12V rails@ 18A each

Model being shown is RF-700W PS

My PSU which should be the same but has this model number on sticker instead RF-700W PS2, differs.

On the sticker it shows three 12V rails rated@ 18A,18A and 16A

    Im confused

EDIT: Forgot to mention I will also be running my EVGA 8800GT in third slot as dedicated physx. So I guess that will up the amps load even more? So should I be looking into a new PSU?

    Update:

I think I am gonna have to get a new PSU, heres what Im looking at:

What do you guys think? Considering Im gonna be running two 5770s, which will be oced and an 8800GT for physx, AND my cpu will also be Oced.

Will one of these be alright?

does the psu you have support crossfire via the proper power connectors? i don't think you need a new psu. 5770's aren't power house cards.

the 5770 uses a single 6 pin power connector, my gtx280 uses a 6pin and an 8pin on a corsair tx750. i'm almost positive i could throw a second one in there no problem too.

you should have power to spare is my guess.

Re: Dual 5770s in crossfire, little worried about amps on 12V line

After a little more researching, I have come up with this:

    http://www.overclockers.com/forums/s...ketfish&page=2

It states that the Rocketfish I have is not a 700W huntkey titan but in reality it is this the "new" version:

    http://www.cwt.com.tw/english/2_prod...il.php?ID=1050

A high quality 550W, I verified this by comparing those specs to the actuall sticker on my PSU. It sure matches.
So now that we know that my combined total amps on 12V is roughly 52 amps. Can I safely say that is NOT enough for two 5770s AND an 8800GT AND an OCed PII 710?

They say you need 55 amps for the crossfire 5770s and then I figure the 8800GT will add to that number.

Now my last concern is whether the new PSU should be "multiple" 12v rails or a big single rail? I would like it to have at least 65-70 amps just to play it safe.

Try and just see? What if this current PSU blows up the rest of my parts?
I dont want to take that risk.

I ordered the dual 5770s over a week ago, and they are here but im not allowed to "open" them till christmas, and if I get a "bad" grade in college they are being returned

52 amps does not meet the requierment of 55 and then add an 8800GT for physx

Nothing will "blow up".... it simply won't work or will not be stable under load if the V's coming from your PS are inadequate. Worst case scenario is possibly an internal fuse (if your PS has one or a few) might go. No damage will occur to the rest of your system from undervolting" your hardware. A few other things to take into consideration, hard drives, memory, your CPU, case fans... you see where I am going.

Myself I always over do it when PS's are concerned. Comes from years of being a SCSI addict, not due solely to OC'd CPU's, memory or graphics cards.. I used to be addicted to fast SCSI hard drives. 15k RAID0 boot with a nice 10k RAID5 backup. Those drives along with a pair of Xeons under 100% load used to keep my home office nice and cozy during the winter months. Especially if I left the rig on to do some encoding overnight.

Also 55 amps is more than the system will ever use. CWT is not known to make psu's that fry your system when they fail. If the psu can't put out enough power you wlil most likely get video errors or the system will shut down when you use the crossfire heavy.
If you suspect your psu is junk toss it, don't play with it.

I always go with SeaSonic, but all the psu's you have listed are good ones.

I know nothing will blow up, but maybe fry something?

In any case, as far as a new PSU is concerned.

    Should I go with this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139006

has 60 amps on 12v rail and is 80 plus certified

    or this

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...%20850%20watts

has 70 amps on 12v rail but is NOT 80 plus certified

and this is a multi rail option:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817153038

4 rails @ 18 amps each. Would that equal 72 amps total?

Should I get a single or multiple rail?

Go single rail. If you go multi you will potentially have to worry about load balancing the psu. That will put you right back in to the same scenario as your original power supply.

I forgot to mention. Good choice going with the 5770s. I have one right now and plan to upgrade to CrossfireX when Eyefinity+CrosfireX is supported.

"Well AMD obviously knew this and is providing provisional Eyefinity support with the HD 5970 graphics card at its release. Why provisional? Because the list of games that are supported compared to single graphics chip options is much much smaller and CrossFire + Eyefinity support is limited to the HD 5970 ONLY. That means that users looking to add a second HD 5800-series card are still going to be out luck for at least another driver revision or two. "

I stole that from Ryan's review of the 5970 on November 18th.
