    125watt vs 140watt AMD Processor

Hey guys I'm looking at the AMD Phenom II X4 965. Whats the differrence between the 125 and 140 watt models. Is there a performance difference here and I could also use some help deciding.
    Thanks in advance.

    The 140W is a C2 stepping and the 125W is a C3 stepping.
If you're going to run it just like it comes out of the box then it makes no difference which one you get, BUT if you are planning on OC'ing it then go for the 124W with the C3 stepping.
The C3 tends to clock higher on less voltage resulting in cooler temps.

Performance should be very close to the same. The 125's have small improvements and should also run cooler.

Main difference is if your board can survive a 140 watt cpu. Make sure your board choice specifically supports it (better power for a 125 as well)

This is the board I'm looking at.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128378 The manufacturer does list the 140 watt processor on their recommended processor sheet but not the 125 watt.
    Will this make a difference?

Thanks Oldbrave. I'm going to run the 125watt CPU. Do you know if they are still unlocked.

Re: 125watt vs 140watt AMD Processor

there are folks running the 125 watt phenom II 955 on this board, so i am sure the 965,s will work to......its allmost like my board ,Gigabyte-MA790GP-DS4H , expcept you are going to be running ddr3. i usually buy gigabye or asus. gigabyte has had 4 cpu ID bios upgrades,,,so its more and likely there were for the 125,s watt cpus. if you are a gamer, the phenom II 965 is allmost as good as the i7,s....except for maybe far cry....i have thought about putting a 965 in my amd rig, but also am considering a 5970 video card..

Ok cool, so all I have to do is flash the bios and I'm good to go?

I almost got that board, but stuck with Asus ( I'm an Asus whore), for my 965........which blew my Athlon X2 away...

I would recommend 125w rather than 140w as AMD stop shipping the X4 II 965 C2 140w as it has been replaced with C3 125w and still ship out - I used the X4 965 with 125w that seem excellent run.
