    Newegg ships Fake i7 920s

    http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/news/...e-i7-920-cpus/

They accidentally shipped a reported 300 "Demo Boxes" to customers. They even mentioned that NCIX double-checked and they said theirs were clean.

How will this be handled? Refunds or shipping a real processor?

Saw that from their Twitter. Thought it was pretty funny myself, would have been even better if this happened one month from now.

this is getting ugly. two sites already got take down notices from the companies involved with the fake processors.

    http://www.techeye.net/business/comp...el-cpu-reports

here is what started it all.

    http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1500534

and more from other sites that confirm the fake products being sold.

what i am not surprised is how this did not seem news worthy for pcper.com. after all, newegg is a sponsor of this site.

wow, came from ipex, and everyone thought it wad d and h. not that i care much about who supplies newegg, as long as i get the proper product....there is definitly someone , somewhere, dealing in theft here...someone that has access to intel boxes, and can switch products somewhere. no wonder d&h was shouting foul

That doesn’t shock me at all PCP has always had more journalistic integrity than some [O]ther sites.

Wow, that's irrepairable damage. Oh, well, who cares. I'll probably still buy from them. I don't really think any retailer is immune from unknowingly obtaining counterfeit products. Pretty damn funny.

Fake, as in, they won't run or they'll run but not at the advertised speeds?

    Q9300 with 4 GB DDR2 1066 RAM
UltraSharp 2408WFP (needs to be RMA'ed) on GeForce GTX 285 on two 18 amp 12V lines
    Audigy X-Fi Fatal1ty w/ Logitech Z-5500 & Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and HD 595
plus the usual stuff in a poorly designed Antec P180 PW case

Re: Newegg ships Fake i7 920s

Yeah, fake as in they're meant to be put out on store shelves, a customer picks it up, takes it to the counter, and they exchange it for the real product at checkout.

Since newegg has no retail presence they'd have no need for these and they wouldn't scan for them, but you'd think that the discrepancy in shipping weight would have let them know that something was up. Unless these were just blank CPUs with real HSFs in them, in which case they had no way of knowing.
