Looks like a highly promising hack for unlocking the hypervisor on the PS3 has Sony permanently disabling Linux for it's next update.
This means, no more PS3GRID or Ubuntu on the PS3.

Not questioning it as news at all. I didn't realize it would ever be done retroactively. But I've yet to be convinced of any usefulness in running Linux on the PS3 anyway. Glad I bought a slim.

When the PS3 first came out it was a very cheep way to build a cluster for doing research. Many Universities bought them.
But now, with the advent of the modern video cards, I'd think it would be cheaper to work with several Fermis in SLI or the Radions in Crossfire.
But it all depends on how the data can be divided up, and what type of math needs to be performed. So that will determine which route is the best in the end. Its just now there are other options available which weren't mature enough a couple years ago.
