EA announces new Medal Of Honor for 2010, set in Afghanistan

EA announces new Medal Of Honor for 2010, set in Afghanistan
Guildford, UK – December 2, 2009 – Medal of Honor™ returns to the front lines, this time in today’s war. For the first time in the franchise’s 10-year history, Medal of Honor is leaving the WWII theatre and putting players in war-torn Afghanistan.

Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed that in 2010, Medal of Honor, an all-new first-person shooter game, will introduce the Tier 1 Operator: a relatively unknown entity directly under the National Command Authority who takes on missions no one else can handle.

The development team has been working closely with Tier 1 Operators from the US Special Operations Community since the earliest stages of development to create the most authentic modern war experience.

Set against the backdrop of a rugged and brutal landscape, Medal of Honor depicts modern military operations through the lens of a small band of fictional characters. Inspired by real events, Medal of Honor reveals the mission of today’s most elite soldier – his will, his mindset and his uncompromising professionalism.

Medal of Honor is being built with a best-in-class single-player campaign. The Medal of Honor development team at EALA has been hand-selected by the studio leadership of General Manager Sean Decker, Executive Producer Greg Goodrich and Senior Creative Director Rich Farrelly.

To compliment the single-player experience, EALA has enlisted the multiplayer expertise at EA DICE. This team will develop the multiplayer experience ofMedal of Honor. These two studios are coming together to deliver a world-class Medal of Honor that is poised to re-set and re-boot the franchise for a new generation.

“When we first set out to reinvent Medal of Honor, we wanted to stay true to its roots of authenticity and respect for the soldier but bring it into today’s war. The Tier 1 Operator is the most disciplined, deliberate and prepared warrior on the battlefield. He is a living, breathing, precision instrument of war.” said Greg Goodrich, Executive Producer,Medal of Honor. “We are honored to have the rare opportunity to work closely with these men to create a game that shares their experience.”

“EA has always been an advocate for telling the soldiers’ story. The new Medal of Honor follows that tradition. We felt it was important to tell the story of today’s war and today’s elite soldiers via today’s most relevant medium – videogames,” said Sean Decker, VP andGeneral Manager of EALA. “We are so proud to bring together two powerhouse development teams to make this game a reality; EA Los Angeles and EA DICE.Medal of Honor promises to be an unforgettable entry in the modern shooter genre.”

Tune in to Spike TV’s 2009 Video Game Awards on Saturday, December 12 at 8pm PST for a world-premier first-look at Medal of Honor.

It is coming to Sony's PS3 entertainment system, Microsoft's XBox 360 console and the PC in 2010.

Here's the PS3 cover art (quit yer complainin'; the cover's the same for all three platforms. The PS3's the only one I could find on short notice):

i have been waiting a long time for a true successor to allied assault.

i sure hope this will be that game, it's got mighty big boots to fill though!

with IW's missteps with cod as of late this is just in time. hopefully they stay true to their roots and make a competent pc version. dice sounds like it could be a good fit, so long as they don't add too many battlefield elements.

just added the video game awards to my dvr to-do list, was gonna watch anyways but now i really have a good reason!

That would only make it better

Seriously I dont think it would be a good idea because it would separate the community. In fact BF3 is supposedly coming out in Fall '10
Does EA want to have MOH fans and BF3 fans?

Why are they gonna show a trailer for this game?
    yes they're showing a trailer.

bf games cater to a different type of game play than many other shooters. there's plenty of room for both.

The last MOH (Airborne) was alright, nothing spectacular but entertaining with pretty good replay value. MOHAA is a classic, only thing I didnt like about that one was in the mansion level where enemys would spawn out of thin air.

This new one seems like it could be cooler single player then CoD, but I doubt the multiplayer will be able to top battlfield, no vehichles right?

    http://www.gametrailers.com/video/me...spike-tv/59827

trailer from the VGA's on spike last night.

trailer looks really freaking cool, however it certainly looks 100% pre-rendered.

i sure wish they had showed some actual game play, but the game is a good year away still so all in due time i suppose.

looks a lot like the cod style of game play, which was actually a lot like the MOH style of game play at one time, and all of this makes me happy.

can't wait to see more vids, particularly some in game stuff, i suppose this video is using the games engine to render it and that could be good since it did look pretty great. no idea what engine they might be using, i'll assume their own. looks like they're going for destructible environments and possibly heavy on physics.

either way this got me pretty excited to see moh make a true comeback in pc gaming

Re: EA announces new Medal Of Honor for 2010, set in Afghanistan

Medal of Honor will ship with 2 game engines
Apparently EA's Medal of Honor will utilize two different g! ame engines when it's released later this year. DICE, who is working on the game's multiplayer component, will use their Frostbite 2 game engine for MP. Frostbite 2 is the same engine being used in Bad Company 2, and will support DX11 graphics.

EA LA is working on the single-player component of Medal of Honor, and they've apparently decided to use Epic's Unreal Engine 3. UE3 isn't as advanced as Frostbite, but it's definitely a more battle-tested engine that's probably more familiar to the EA LA team than Frostbite 2 is.

With DICE working on the multi component of Medal of Honor, gamers may be worried that it could play like Battlefield. Apparently though DICE is going for a completely different multi experience. In an interview with Planet IGN, DICE's Patrick Bach said: "But then again we're not striving to make a new Battlefield – the goal is to make a completely new IP and make sure we get the best possible multiplayer experience for that IP. I've been play-testing it – and it really is good. We're using the Frostbite engine and it's amazing to see how it can build a completely different experience."
