    Re: Benchmark Farsite

Thanks smoked trout, that 4000Mhz is my 24/7 clocks. I edited my post because I had confused my 3800Mhz with the 4000Mhz results. My times did decrease with the extra 200Mhz by about a second..

    Re: Benchmark Farsite

I'd almost expect a bigger decrease than that.

I'm glad your comment made me look harder at the code because I fully intended to have all disk access out of the timings results. And while the access is minimal it's still present and ticks me off. Never trust a programmer! Especially myself!

Looks like you've got an i7 920 and a Q6600 which are my 2 current systems. Do you want duplicate tests?

If you're willing to run it I'll sure take the numbers. Nothing wrong with duplication/verification.

    Benchmarks sent !

I have my system set up with a WD Black 500 GB as Master and O.S. system HDD, but have the Swap file in my 2nd HDD, a Samsung Spinpoint 630 GB, both SATA HDD's
( might no be of any importance )

From comparison with the published figures here, I thought so too ...

I think that with a high quality CPU cooler, you could easily go beyond 3.3 GHz / EasyTune6 shows one more OC step, to 3.8 GHz with a BaseClock of 200 MHz (so that 's a given) !

    .

Correction to the CPU speed: I think CPU-Z and EasyTune report it correctly at 3.30 GHz, not 3.15 GHz !

    Although ...
CPU Speed Professional puts it at 3.15 GHz (too)

Disappointed at Gigabyte's EasyTune ... (it says 150x22 too)

Yeah I'm just reporting what's found in the registry under
    Key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    Subkey: HARDWARE\DESCRIPTION\System\CentralProcessor\0
    Name: ~MHz

    .

According to that data and that of the CPU Speed Professional program, it 's only running at 3.15 (must be that the multiplier is not set to 22, but 21 (default I believe), which would explain 3.15 in stead of 3.30 ...

I'm just reading from the registry because it's easy. I'm somewhat surprised that it picks up an overclock at all, and not sure how that field gets populated. Not sure how CPU Speed Pro gets the value either, I'd be more inclined to trust cpu-z

    .

In this case, it is EasyTune6 that will have altered the registry to ensure a restart with the same OC as before.
It enables you to choose an OC setting (out of 3 possibilities in the Easy mode), but needs to reboot Windows to get to that new setting, which of course means that it has written it to registry ...

The app. AMD used, did all of it from Windows, without rebooting, but needed to crank up the speed after Windows had started up (at the previously set speed in the BIOS settings).
In that case, I don't think you 'd have found the correct speed data in the registry.

Reading up on those registry settings they get populated by ntdetect.com on boot. It reads information from bios to calculate speed.
