    Pretty nice offer, huh ?

In case anyone is not familiar with CA AntiVirus, it can be one nasty
virus/Trojan to get rid of if one has not done so before. Sadly I
have had exp with this. I hope if any get a like email offer you do
as I did and sent it the file 13 spam cabinet. It's trouble big time,
but I thought if was nice of them to remember me if for no other
reason than I can post it to sites I go to for a heads up NOT to buy
into this mess. Oh it'll work alright, after you shell out money for
something that has infected your unit in the first place such as
CA Anti Virus 2010 and it's morphs...

One has only to Google CA AV 2010.

    Thank you for reading.

CA (Computer Associates) AntiVirus is a legitimate antivirus program - not a virus or trojan.

I don't like it. It's slow and cumbersome and not as effective as some of the competition. As for removal, it's not the only AV program that can be difficult to remove. Almost all of the AV programs on the market have special uninstall tools available because they're known to not uninstall properly - Kaspersky, Avira, AVG, Avast, Norton, Trend Micro, etc, etc. That's not unique to CA products.

Re: Ck the email I received for a "special deal"..

Got to tell, I've had to get rid of CA's Anti virus 2010 in at least 4
PC's. People were surfing the web, what for I don't know, and all
of a sudden a banner opens up stating MS has detected a virus
on your computer, click here to remove and then all sorts of things
start filing up. The catch is " tot get rid of these and other infections
purchase this, yadda, yadda yadda.." I have read that this outfit
is legit, but it shouldn't take over control of one's PC. It's great
for redirecting as well, like when one goes to load Malwarebytes.

    Good luck with that.

Are you sure you're not confusing CA Antivirus with a similarly named rogue program? CA Antivirus is no more or less intrusive than it's Norton or Trend Micro counterparts.

Re: Ck the email I received for a "special deal"..

That's very possible. The CA I have dealt with is definitely a nasty bug.
If so I would take back what I've posted, but here is an example.

    http://webtoolsandtips.com/remove-sp...rus-2010-free/

This is the one of them I've had to remove in the past. A couple years
back there was one that came with the name CA Anti Virus or AV
and when I tried to load Malwarebytes to clean it, it would redirect
me to all sorts of weird sites including some crazy place over by
Russia. I do see that Computer Associates is suppose to be a
legit operation. Even CNET has it avail, but whenever I see it..
    no thanks.

Re: Ck the email I received for a "special deal"..

That's not CA Antivirus. That one is indeed a variant of a rogue program - others with similar names include WinAntivirus 2010, XP Antivirus 2010, Vista Antivirus 2010, and the list goes on...

CA Antivirus is a totally different product - see here - and is not malicious software. Note the ICSA and VB100 certifications. About this time last year, CA did have a problem with an infected definition file, but those sorts of events are few and far between.

Rogue security software packages are well known for mimicking legitimate programs and mimicking Windows security components and can sometimes be difficult to differentiate aside from the fact that they usually overrun your PC.

Well it looks like I was wrong. I guess I owe an apology
to those over at CA. Just the same, like making the mistake of
reaching into a dark rock hole out in the high desert, I'm
    not touching it.

But thanks none the less for clarifying.
