Exclamation COMPLETED - Sat July 24 - All day virtual LAN party HERE

For something like 13 straight years I had family LAN parties with the close relatives in my family and when he got old enough my son (Buu). We would rotate who would host it and each summer we would load up all our gear and spend a long weekend doing nothing but LAN gaming. It was only 4 of 5 of us but great times. Unfortunately they lost interest a couple years ago and the tradition ended. I miss those times so I thought I might try to do something at least similar in spirit here. We can't have everyone together in one room but at least we can spend an entire day gaming together - virtually.

So this is the basic idea and it's open to suggestions for change. We have a week to firm up the plans.

    1. We choose a few games that there is interest in playing. Obviously Bad Company 2 for starters. Other games we were thinking of were the forever classic UT2004 and other favorites such as Battlefield 2, Battlefield 2142. There will be a poll attached to this thread. Vote for ALL games you would be interested in playing. The best games would be those that most of the regular players have.

    2. Set a start and end time on Saturday July 24. I'm thinking 10 AM ET to start and end at midnight, 1 AM or whenever (My family LAN party nights typically ended at 3-4 AM).

    3. I'll keep this first post updated with all important information. See below for starters.

PLEASE NOTE: There will be NO set start/end times for particular games. All that will be decided in real time over TEAMSPEAK. So you are STRONGLY ENCOURAGED to join TeamSpeak for this event even if you have never joined in the past. I may update this thread with the current game being played but if you are not on TeamSpeak you may get lost and lose track of what's going on.

Other- Serious Sam HD, Alien Swarm.

BC2 is the safe bet for me. 2142 might be a welcome change. Alien Swarm could be fun.

I'd really like to get to UT2004 and AVP:2000. Those are what I'd really want to play.

However I'm good for just about anything

Count me in for some BC2 and L4D2. I would have to dig up my UT2004 and BF2 disks out the basement but I dont think I could go back to play either one. I Have HL2 and TF2 on steam so all I would have to do is install them. The other games I dont have and not intrested in them at all.

    BF3 Dino:
    i7 2600k, ASUS P8Z68-V Pro, 8GB Corsair, X-25M 120GB, WD 300GB Raptor, 2xEVGA GTX570HD 2.5GB, X-fi Titanium, Antec 1200W.
    Monster: i7 930, MSI X58 Platinum, 9GB Corsair, WD 74GB Raptor, WD 2TB, Palit GTX460 1GB, PCP&C 750W.
    Beast: AMD4400+, Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe, 2GB Corsair, 2x 1TB WD Green Raid0, 2TB WD Green, KFA2 9600GT, Dynex 500W.
    Relic: Intel P4 3.2GHz, Asus P4SD-LA, 1.5 GB PC2700, 160GB WD, 120GB Maxtor, ATI 9600Pro, Dynex 500W.

Does anyone know if the UT2004 bonus packs are available on Steam? I have the disc version and all the standard packs we've played with in the past but if it's different on Steam then we should go with a very vanilla server install.

I haven't tried and tested it myself, but i've installed mods for other games on steam and the game directory is in steam\steamapps\common so if you point the installer to the right folder in there then i think it'd work

I don't think the bonus packs are available on steam, however I think I installed the bonus pack(s) to my Steam install of the game.

I think I still have copies of most of the bonus packs on my home server

If we decide on bonus packs, I can find a hosting service for the files if need be
