So many options - What GPU, new or used?

Right now, my 8800gts/640 SLI plays anything I throw at it. Well, except for the fact that last week I started getting random pixalization. Temps are fine, these are well taken care of with a lot of air - idle @41c, at load up around the 71c mark.

Now, I wouldnt mind a GTX470. Or a pair of 460's but I am cheap, and there is the fact that my 4 year old set up is still blasting the frames high enough to play anything.

    Any good opinions? On my table as of today;

    GTX285 2Gb RAM for $175cad
    GTX460 1Gb for $212cad
    GTX470 for $313cad

    A wild card option -
    two GTX260sli for $240cad.

I think the best performance (minus dx11) is the 260sli option. I havent seen any charts showing the 470 vrs the 285 so I'm not sure if I should just go all in for the 470. Or should I buy a 460 or two?

So many options for video cards. Stats are in my sig, games I play currently are WoW, Aion, War Online, MW2 SC2, and Supcom2.

i would not upgrade till you need to. if you can max settings on what you have, then no need to spend more cash.

You didn't say what res/monitor you are using.....The gtx 460 series are awesome, the 1GB versions are probably the better ones to go for than the 768mb ones, they are overclocking monsters, people are easily getting 800 -900mhz (ref clock is 675mhz) and are benchmarking at faster than gtx 470 (and runnning a lot cooler). A single one of these upto 19**X12** resolution is man enough for anything and sli would be overkill.(approx 30% more fps than a gtx 480)
If you are using 30" panel or using multi monitor (3 monitor needs sli) then there are 2gb versions available which may perform better than the 1gb versions at mega high res with AA.

As I said sli is scaling very well with these cards...upto 90% scaling in some games and to be honest for me with a 19X12 24" monitor is over kill.....this has made me consider waiting for the 455 and 450 which are due shortly and perhaps buying 2 of those.....but I'll wait to see final specs and benchmarks when they are released...meant to be 13 sept at least for the 450.

Yea, my thoughts too - except im pretty sure the older of the two 8800's I have now is failing. Very sporadic, but definitly a card thats faulty. I guess it could be a PSU issue, but it is new, as of @6 months ago. One 8800 would leave me hanging I think as far as what frames I would want to be.

Its hidden in my sig - Im using a 22" Asus VW222U (1680x1050).

My logic sense is telling me go with DX11 - the 460 or 470; but the geek in me is telling me I am going to be disapointed going from SLI to a single card. The wife beside me is telling me "House payment. Boat payment. Greedy kids and wife needs shiny things frequently bought" so I like to go budget and not pick up a pair of 460 or 470 right out the gate.

I had not even though about the 450 option. I dont know how much longer this one 8800 is gonna hobble along though.

    Hmmm.

    Thanks for input fellas.
