Network drive visable through a switch

I have a home network that has outgrown the first router which is causing me to use an old router as a switch. On the old router I disabled the DHCP and made sure it's IP address didn't conflict with the DHCP pool of the main router.

My NAS is attached to the main router while some PCs are hooked up through the old router acting as the switch. Anything hooked up to the switch does not see the other network drives and I'm fairly sure if I tried to print to the network printer behind the switch it would fail as well. How to I setup my old DI-524 to act as it is part of the main network?

I believe your issues (without knowing) is that you are utilizing your WAN port. If you want to use your router as a switch even though you turned off DHCP, you cannot use your WAN port on just about any router turned switch I can think of (probably an exception to that but you get the idea). That is probably your fix as you are likely experiencing NAT traversing issues which most people assume the WAN ports works a lot like uplink ports of old. If this isnt the case, let me know and possibly give more details on IP ranges in use and port connections in use. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the help. I never would have guessed the main ports on a router could be used to daisy chain. It's a bit dissapointing though as most routers only have 4 ports and once you start daisy chaining them you end up using 2 of the ports just to connect routers.

Well you'd usually just add a switch in order to expand the number of ports, but at least most routers out there have more then 1 port. ( Used to be pretty common to have a 1 port router and have to buy a separate switch to share connections.)

Everything seems to be going well for the most part. All the computers have internet access and network access. They all can see each other properly and access each other drives. However, I have a network printer, the HP 2600N that isn't taking jobs. I've been able to add it but I can't print on it through the router acting as a switch.

Edit: It isn't even printing jobs from the computer that is hooked to the switch with it. All the computers can see it, can see the print jobs from other computers queued up on it but none will make it print.

Turns out it was a driver issue with the HP printer. I seem to keep running into this with HP where they simply don't have 64 bit drivers for their printers. Fortunately though for this model I did find one although it was buried in their website. Once I got the proper driver everything has worked great
