Re: memory for Gateway E-4100 series (D865GLC)?
Never had RAM DOA before, so I'm not sure but I may try one slot at a time tonight as suggested and see what happens. I also may try it in my Dragonslayer system and see if it is recognized.
EDIT: ok, just tested one stick at a time in all slots and nothing at all. Either this Gateway MB really doesn't like this RAM or both are DOA which is rather odd. I'm still not convinced they're DOA and I'm hesitating to check them in my Dragonslayer system because of the RAM timings set in the bios and it is a major deal to open the case in this small room. Anyway, it won't be tonight but maybe tomorrow. I may also try it in my work computer first because it only has 512MB of RAM also; I guess I'll have to try them in my box at home first before actually doing an RMA for refund though.
Anyone know for sure what's going with the RAM voltage issue? Since the MB has no way to adjust the voltage in the bios, will it automatically adjust based on the RAM to 2.5V or 2.6V? Looks like the Intel spec is 2.6V, but who knows what Gateway has the board set to.
I think I may be ordering the CT441378 Crucial this weekend though as it sounds like a good idea.
