What's the deal with all of the "ghost" moderators on this site?

I noticed something while searching for some unrelated info tonight. PCPer is being haunted by "ghost" moderators. That is, mods who status is still active, whose names are still on top of a sub-forum, but who haven't been here in a LONG time. I won't name names, but there is one mod that has only made one post THIS YEAR! Another has only made four posts this year, and there are a few others who haven't posted in months. This was just in 2 different highly visited sub-forums.

WTH? I think if I was one of the few still active mods here I'd be even more curious to know what's going on. One things for sure, keeping your mod status at PCPER is a non event. You apparently don't even need to show up at all anymore!

I think it may be partly because of the decrease in activity. I barely ever see spammers anymore even.
Do you wanna know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can't savor all the... little... emotions. In... you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I knew your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?

Probably has to do with the fact that Pcper is a ghost of its former self. Aw, i miss those days.

Yes this has been an issue that has bother me quite a bit. In the past we've been able to get away with a pretty relaxed policy on Moderator participation. But as you know, times have changed and our policy hasn't kept up with this.

As for the spammer issue, from what I've been seeing, it hasn't decreased. With the new tactics that spammers use, their activity is actually up. But our new methods for getting rid of them has led to most of them being banned even prior to them making a single post.

    Back in the day.
    When I was a moderator.
And it was quite an honor.
    Back then.
    There were guide lines.
    Set.
You were required to visit the site at least once daily.
    I remember too.
Moderators had a certain amount of expertise in their respective forums.
PCPer had a credo. No help seeking post shall go unanswered.
    Things have changed.
    Haven't they.

Hardware is allot more plug and play these days it seems to me.

There are also so many choice these days, phones, ipads, etc.

Still loving PC's but I don't have much time these days to write about them.

My guess many of the old Mods are the same or moved on just for something new.

It's sad to see the forums like this. Still, I can't think of any excuse at all why there are "mods" who never visit. It shouldn't be allowed imo and speaks badly of the forums.

The spambots are pretty damn amazing these days.

pcper needs to really, really advertise hard. I'm thinking like multiple weekly giveaways to active members. Small things, but yeah...

Well it looks like Ryan called in the Ghostbusters and got rid of all the ghost mods.

Nm, spoke too soon. It seems the motherboard forum and others are still being "haunted".

I know of a few who aren't even the slightest bit involved in the "communities" they're supposed to be moderating. These people are doing a disservice to the ones who are actually doing the work, as well as those who would replace them
