    Help with Realtek AC'97 ALC850

So today i formated my pc and installed winxp sp3 and when i get to the usual part of installing the drivers for audio i get into big problems.

My motherboard is Asus K8N and soundcard is I guess Realtek AC'97 ALC850. When i start to install the drivers my pc just restarts for no reason at all. I thought maybe my CD was damaged so I copied them into the hardisk but its still the same. I tried manually installing the drivers through the device manager but its still the same. It says " Code 10 device is not working properly " or it just restarts sometimes again.

I tried to download new drivers for my soundcard but the pc just do the same force restart. Need help pls !

p.s Im kinda noob with PC so if i didnt give enough information ask for it pls.

    Bump.

So I download the latest drivers from Asus for my mainboard and soundcard. Reformated and I install winxpbut still the same problem. My PC restarts in the middle of updating the sound drivers. Tried even to update the drivers in safe mode which they finish with no problem but then my PC just restarts over and over without starting windows.

No idea why is this going on...

So this was working ok before ?
Have you made any changes like adding a pci card or moving a cards position?
Sometimes you can get irq conflicts with certain devices /certain slots that can be resolved by changing slots.

It worked OK before but the last time I format the PC had the exact same problem but somehow I managed to fix it ....

Now that you mention it I opened the PC before the format. The reason I had to format my PC because i opened it to clean it from dust and after that my PC couldnt start windows and went in a restart loop just like when I installed the sound drivers from safe mode.

So I fixed my problem just now. Thanks to CMB for pointing me in the right direction. My soundcard was misplaced so I opened it and just pressed it and after the drivers installed with no problem and the sound is back !
