    Re: The 2012 Election Thread

    Guess what?

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich scrapped his way to victory in South Carolina on Saturday as voters in the conservative state rejected frontrunner Mitt Romney's pitch that he is the best bet to fix a broken economy and defeat Democratic President Barack Obama.

I went to Gingrich and asked for an "open candidacy" where I can pick somebody else to be the GOP candidate.

As I said before, the best thing we can hope for with Gingrich being on the ballot is that he wins, but then has a heart attack from him imaging all the money he'd make from his memoir sales and have to resign. Then whoever his vice president was would get to be president. Ah, I can hope. We'll call that the best case worst case scenario.

Seriously, don't these people remember 1994-1998? Newt Gingrich is a ••••••• idiot who ruined all the good will and power the Republicans were given in 1994. I wouldn't trust him to run a lemonade stand and he'd probably walk off with the cash box.

I remember the 90s with Newt. I have heard his talks on foreign policy and if president I have one thing to tell those going into and those in the militay, get ready for war, Newt will will one make one happen. Newt likes a fight and will go out of his way to start one.
The crash has laid bare many unpleasant truths about the United States. One of the most alarming, says a former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, is that the finance industry has effectively captured our government—a state of affairs that more typically describes emerging markets, and is at the center of many emerging-market crises. If the IMF’s staff could speak freely about the U.S., it would tell us what it tells all countries in this situation: recovery will fail unless we break the financial oligarchy that is blocking essential reform. And if we are to prevent a true depression, we’re running out of time.

Everyone here knows how much I DETEST Obama. But Gingrich? Hmmm, the guy scares me. If ever there was a politician I don't trust, he is #1 on the list. This victory for him tonight really makes me question what is going on with the Republican party. As Falcon said, we can expect some major wars to go down with the Grinch at the helm of the ship. He comes across to me as a guy who will get his way or else. All I can say once again is I really hope South Carolina has just picked the first candidate NOT to win the WH since 1981.

I very much remember him in those days. This is why I was in a state of disbelief when I heard he was running for Pres. and he actually had backing from people who claim to be Republicans. I'll bet Obama is laughing his ass off tonight, and then secretly cringing inside realizing he'll still have to be leading this country for another four years.

Family values aside, I really don't see what is to fear about Gingrich. At least he knows how to get a balanced budget together.

What goes along with a war other than death? Deficit spending.

Just want him to run the country on a fiscally responsible basis. I don't want to marry him.
