Surrond sound connected to my LCD TV

I've connectd all the speakers to the receiver, left, right, center, sub and back left and right. My LCD has HDMI as does my samsung Suround receiver. I am getting no sound through the samsung suround setup connected with HDMI

Do I need to attach the TV to the reciever via different cable? I also Have my Cox cable box I'm going through.

Any help would be much appreciated..

maybe the tv is not surround sound capable. did you mess with the receiver to make sure it sends the correct type of audio to your HDTV?

you need to route your sound thru your reciever from the cable box, as FAIK the HDMI is for going from the reciever to the tv.
The TV may have a digital out on it, if so, you might be able to feed it to the reciever.

I do know that I run all my sources thru the surround sound reciever, video and all, then to the tv thru HDMI.

On probably 90% of TV's, you will only get 2-channel PCM from the digital out, from the HDMI source. If you are watching something on the TV's internal tuner, then you will get Dolby Digital 5.1, if available. I have heard that this was originally due to copyright concerns decoding the HDMI stream and decoding, then passing it on to another component, but that is not a factor now. So some TV's will pass the dolby digital from HDMI source, but most still will not.
It sounds like AMD Fanatic's Surround sound receiver will only switch HDMI, but will not decode it and process the sound. Many less-expensive receivers are like this, including my old Onkyo.

I do cable box -> HDMI -> HT receiver -> HDMI -> TV

That gives me 5.1 on HD channels that offer it. Same setup for the BD player and XBox 360.

I had one of those older Onkyo's which didn't handle audio over HDMI. Back then I ran digital audio connections between the components and receiver for audio. That works fine but you can't get the new uncompressed audio formats available from Blu-ray.
