    Problem Help with Gaming Performance

I am trying to increase my in game performance while being able to watch shows on my second monitor. I am running 2x24" Monitors @ 1900x1200.

I had been running both monitors off of a 9800GTX+ Superclocked and I added a GTX 470 Superclocked. I was under the assumption that assigning each of the graphics cards a single monitor I should see a noticeable improvement in my gaming performance.

I was getting smooth performance when playing without my second monitor running any movies on it but with any video on the second monitor it behaves as if both monitors are running off of the single card.

Any thoughts on what might be happening?

You need to have two of the same videocards, I believe, to get improvements, IF, the game is coded for it.

I'm not postive, I stick with one videocard and oc the snot out of it.

^^^ Sounds like a configuration misfire. You should be running both the monitors off the 470 and maybe be using the 9800 as a dedicated Physx card. If you have one monitor hooked to the 470 and the other to the 9800 you've gimped your system badly.

I guess splitting the monitors is more logical to me but if it actually gimps the system then I guess I can do as you suggested and make the 9800 dedicated to Physx.

Any explanation as to why dedicating each monitor to a specific card is actually worse? I figured the 470 would take all the game duties for itself while I could do whatever on the 9800 without affecting game performance.

    Thanks for the help.

The 9800 simply cannot keep up with the 470.

What video types are you watching on the 2nd monitor ?

    Flash ? AVI? MKV ?

Any video compression will take processor cycles (flash more than others)

Could you enter your system information into the space for that in your User CP then enable viewing of it? Or could you make a detailed signature listing all of your parts? This will help others answer this and future questions, and you only need to do it once. As an example of the level of detail we need, you can click on my system dropdown or look at some of the other signatures you see here. Thanks.

For now I have just switched the video card slots because I believe the 470 which is doing most of the heavy duty work was being constricted on airflow. That seemed to help improve performance and the fan noise has gone down considerably.

As for what I watch it could be anything from Flash/HTML5 on youtube or AVI/MKV for movies or shows that I have downloaded.

I added my system information but not sure if others can view it.
