    That part is great.

There are so many small surprises in this game. As a whole, I think the game is better written than Oblivion was. After Oblivion was set in the capital province and the capital city, I doubted if Bethesda could tell a riveting story in Skyrim (which I had always imagined as the frozen north backwoods of the Empire), but they can.

The MQ and Civil War stuff are great, very well written, I think. Games need to touch on issues like politics, religion and racism more often.

My sixty-five hours laugh at you...

OK, finished the main quest. Slight anti-climax I thought. Also found another bug: at one point if you want to earn the help of the Blades (not much of a spoiler) then you have to carry out a killing (the MQ can be done without doing this). But if you want to do that killing after the MQ is over, you can't because the victim won't die: their health drops to zero but they don't even fight back. And you can't do a couple of Blades quests until that character dies.

In my vacation from Skyrim, I've been replaying Metro 2033. I played it last when the game first game out. Forgot what a cool, fun game that is! I wonder if the book has been translated into English. The original novel that the game is based on is in Russian of course, and when I checked last year, there were no good English translations of the novel.

Anyway, a little sidebar for all the Skyrim talk.

Metro was the game I played before Skyrim. Did THAT game ever spoil me on graphics! It made Skyrim look even more dated than it already is. Just think how incredible Skyrim would've looked with Metro 2033 level graphics.

Finally got my Skyrim guide book yesterday (stupid Barnes and Noble UPS/USPS hybrid clusterf... shipping!). Anyway all I can say about it is wow. You can not truly appreciate this awesome game without this book. It is incredible to me how much their really is to do in this game, and the guide book points it all out. I can't recommend it enough.

If nothing else the book gives you an idea of how many quests there are! The two most common complaints (I thought) about Oblivion were: too few factions and too few quests. They've certainly put enough in this game - effectively an infinite number, although a lot are a bit samey.

In the meantime, my second character is already level eight. Wood Elf going for stealth, light armour and bow. I've dropped out of the MQ before the random dragon attacks are triggered, but AFAIK the placed dragons are still there if I want them.

Want to give us a taste for what you're talking about? An example of a minor quest that you would never have found otherwise perhaps? I'm probably not going to buy the guide anyway, but I definitely won't buy it unless I see a compelling reason.

There is no "one" reason I bought the guide book. There are many reasons, including info on where and whom to get trained by, where and how to buy houses (ie, what quests to do to get them), a list of all enemies in the game with all details such as how much health reserves they have, maps of every cave, dungeon, city, castle, etc. It's already helped me out in my quest to get my favorite steed Shawdowmage. I've wanted that horse since I acquired it in Oblivion for it's faster speed and higher health reserves. He helps out a lot in fighting larger enemies. I wasn't sure if he was even going to be in Skyrim or how to get him. Now I know he becomes available after doing a certain quest for the Dark Brotherhood.

Can most of this info be had off the internet for free? Sure, if that is you know what you're looking for. To me, the $16 I paid for the guide book is totally worth it just to have the info always at hand. I hate quitting the game to go look something up on the internet. It also recently helped me to find out how to cure a disease I got somewhere. Before this game, I never really understood why anyone would buy a game guide, but then I've never played a game as involved as this one either.

Btw, speaking of the Dark Brotherhood. Is it bad that these are the quests I enjoy the most in the game?

    Cool, thanks

Like you prior to this game, I've never considered buying a game guide before, so to hear a little bit more about why it might be a useful purchase from someone who actually bought it is certainly a better advertisement than anything else they could do themselves

Nah, the best quests in Oblivion were Dark Brotherhood quests too.

You also learn a lot from the guide that you might miss: like the secret to the various claws and how to figure out the matching door combinations from them.

Lol, I almost mentioned that but was too embarrassed to after I saw in the guide book (I played through one of these parts before the book came in) that all I had to do was look at the claw itself to see the combination. Duh. I went all over the place trying to find the right combo's looking on the walls, floor, ceiling. I ended up just going by process of elimination. Surprisingly got it on the 4th try.
