    Hybrid Solid State Drives

How does everyone feel about Seagate's most recent line of Momentus XT Hybrid Solid State Drives? Is it worth considering?

From what I've heard, they are not worth using. The premium you pay for a 4gb cache just isn't worth it.

If you are using the drive is a desktop I agree. I first installed mine in a computer and was not impressed at all.

Since I already had it I installed it in my laptop replacing a 5400RPM drive.

The boot time difference was incredible as were the way the apps opened.

Being curious, I cloned the drive onto another 2.5 7200 disk I had and installed it in the laptop.

The hybrid proved faster than the standard drive so I reinstalled it and have used it ever since.

They are faster than platter drives, but are pathetic compared to real SSDs. I would consider them in laptops where drive space is at a premium
