I just looked into some of the logs and yes it appears that there has been a distributed attack against us over the past few hours. The attacker(s) is currently selecting random users and trying random passwords against them.

What I don't get is why doesn't this weirdo person just create an account here themselves?

Probably a spammer trying to hijack an account and use it to spam resulting in the user profile getting banned/locked.

That or a banned member has some grudges they want to settle 8)

My feelings are hurt. Nobody wants to hack my account.

Re: Someone trying to log in under my name.

I'm sure its just a new approach spammers are using. Hijack someone's account and then they change your password and sig and instantly get their spam message out to thousands of posts.

Also be warned, just because you haven't got the locked e-mail, does not mean they didn't attempt to guess your password. It just means they didn't hit the flood limit for your account.

    Edit:
If you had an account with GAWKER, Gizmodo, Deadspin, Kotaku, Jezebel, IO9, Jalopnik or Lifehacker their database was compromised. This exposed your Gawker passwords. Make sure you've changed your password there and here.

I've started to see evidence on the net that many forums are currently under a similar attack all pertaining back to the loss of Gawker database.
