New computer wanted, not sure what to get

Right now I have a Gateway gt5034 with a Athlon 64 x2 4200, 4gb of ram, 320gb HD and a Geforce 6800gt. I am using a Viewsonic CRT monitor, 24". I am looking for a new computer, I have just over $800 in Best Buy gift cards, which pretty much means a pre-built computer from Best Buy. I've been looking at them for a couple of weeks and I am undecided on intel or AMD based processors. I've looked at this one several times:

For best bang for the buck and future upgradability(sp), which is the best bet? For the Phenom 945 I was looking to upgrade the video card to this:

The other two systems would have to stay as is for the time being. I've researched the motherboards in both HPs (Foxconn) and while they are not the greatest, they do support processor upgrades down the line.

The new PC will be used for gaming, internet and working with Microsoft Office. Pictures here and there, but not with Photoshop. No video encoding or watching movies or streaming movies to the TV. More of a gaming machine than anything else.

Right now I am gaming at resolutions ranging from 800 by 600 up to 1280 by 1028. Anything higher and I get horrible frame rates.

I'm still not sold on LCDs, although my wife's 23" HP widescreen looks really good. Haven't run any games on it to see what they look like, but her computer is a slimline with a Pentium E5300, not sure what the VC is, but I can't imagine the card is very much. She bought it strictly for work and pictures.

As far as future upgrades, both AMD & Intel will be coming out with a new socket this year, so you will be limited to what is currently on the right now. So the three choices are to get the cheapest setup now & consider upgrading to the new sockets later. Or buying the most you can afford right now & hold off on any upgrades in the near future. Or buy nothing now & wait until the new stuff comes out before buying.
