    Any HD recommendations?

I upgraded most of my system the other day, and my next step is to get an SSD for the system drive, and a new storage drive. I've pretty much set my mind on an OCZ Agility 2 for the SSD, but for the storage drive, it's still up in the air. Anyone have any suggestions for a good manufacturer/model for a large (1-2TB) storage drive? I'm shooting for something that won't cramp my performance too much. Price is a consideration, but I'm not going to nickel and dime it (if I have to spend $50 extra for a good drive versus a mediocre one, I'll do it).

    I recommend Western Digital drives.

Haven't used anything else for over 5 years and I'm happy.

I'd go for a 2 or 1.5 TB drive that fits your budget. choose from three general lines:

    Black
    Blue
    Green

The greens are not 7.2k drives. The blacks are more expensive and I use them for the OS unless I have an SSD or 10k drive available.

The blues are your standard drives...

UltraSharp 2408WFP (needs to be RMA'ed) on GeForce GTX 285 on two 18 amp 12V lines
    Audigy X-Fi Fatal1ty w/ Logitech Z-5500 & Sennheiser HD 280 Pro and HD 595
plus the usual stuff in a poorly designed Antec P180 PW case

I also enjoy WD and use them exclusively. I mainly use the Black line only, but I do own the others as well.

Western Digital Black Edition. Also Wd's support is second to none. You get right through to telephone support and questions are answered by a very knowledgeable and courteous staff.

Looks like I made a decent choice then. There was a really good deal on an open box Green 2TB at Micro Center (something like $50). The system drive is an OCZ Vertex 2 SSD, and that Green is handling my storage. Some of the particular power-saving features can get annoying, but I don't depend on the drive for my day to day operations, so that's fine.

Yep, good choice. I am pretty much strictly WD. However, some of the Samsung Spinpoint drives are pretty awesome. I bought a 250G 7200 a few years back for storage, it still runs, it's just full now so I've pulled it. I'm in the market for a 2T storage drive that I can use externally via eSata for backups for all my systems, and will be looking at WD Green and the Spinpoints. My conscience tells me to get a 5400RPM drive as they are lower power and I don't really need speed for backup and storage, but I find it hard to buy anything less than 7200 having been a raptor fan for years. I'm waiting for the SSDs to come down a bit more before I make the plunge on one for an OS drive.

I've stopped using SSDs for OSs. They are fast but not really that fast.
Once the OS is up and the programs, it doesn't seem to give me any gains.

I'm moving my databases onto SSDs. OS stays with a good old Raptor.

Haven't tried a WD SSD though. Not sure if you can go wrong there. Just make sure it's something modern, and not something with transfer rates that are close to spinners.
