    3dmark 2001 se on win 7?

lol, i realize how dumb this is, but i've always liked running the oldest version (that mattered) of 3dmark and seeing what ridiculous sorts of scores i can get.

anyone able to get it running in win7 64? i assume it's just never going to happen, futuremark doesn't even support it any longer. tried compatibility and everything.

maybe i'll just run 03, i miss that sweet rocket truck and the matrix/max payne games though.

From memory I gave up trying years ago. I think it's a DirectX thing, not a Win7 thing. And have a

heh, it came up in some off-forum conversation and one of the results on the googles brought us back here. At least some lols were had

That said, my error is something to the effect of "128mb of ram not detected, at least 128mb of ram is required to run 3dmark". Silly 3dmark, I'm closer to having 128GB than 128MB! Its also not specific if the ram requirement is VRAM or system RAM, I guess I should look that up since it might tell us a bit more about where the issue lies

In case any of you nerds are interested, which I doubt anyone is, I got it running.

Start 3dmark with task manager open and set to the processes tab sorted alphabetically. Right click the 3dmark process quickly and set affinity to 1 cpu (click the select all box to unselect all). If you do it before the 128mb ram warning pops up, clicking ok on the warning should allow 3dmark to start. You can then set affinity to use all cores. Only thing not working is the demo.

I seem to have found a way to get passed that warning as well. Prior to doing the above, right click the 3dmark2001se.exe and run it in xp sp3 compatibility mode. This also allowed me to run the demo. For whatever reason everything worked before using compatibility mode except the demo.

The game also works, but you need a serial...just saying.

So this is my contribution to the internet for the year.

Sick. That totally worked. It still gave me the 128mb error, but then it proceeded to run correctly. My rig scored 86239

just for giggles, grabbed it, and ran it. It gave me the 128meg error, then ran just fine. I remember it giving my 9700pro a good workout back in the day.
