    Re: Crysis 2

the requirements might ALSO be a bad indicator because you have to imagine the original game wasn't very well optimized.

warhead came out and ran considerably better with the same engine, so hopefully they've refined cryengine 3 enough that you can get a very noticeable improvement in graphics without as much of a performance hit or need for better hardware.

that's just me being optimistic for once though.

    Wait a minute!!!

This is minimum specs guys. Minimum specs mean nothing. It could just mean that the game is scalable. e.g. a game that was extremely scalable could have the NVidia ti4200 as minimum specs and play with Half life 1 looking graphics, but have the GTX 480 as recommended and the visuals just blows your mind.

Crysis 1 wasn’t very scalable and that got quit a lot of flak for having high system requirements (uncalled for IMO). It could be fair to say that they might have learned their lesson from that mistake. I don’t know for sure but it is possible.

It doesn't really matter, this game will not be DX11 coded, it will be DX9 with DX11 sprinkle just like BC2.

I don't expect great things in the Graphics department....

    Re: Crysis 2

Notice it says that it uses directX 9 and the minimum requirement is a directX 10 card. This should set off alarm bells. Why? Because it means they were sloppy with directX 9 code.

The PS3 has the more powerful GPU and it's basically a 7800GT scaled back a bit.

I think, instead of Crysis 2, I'm going to gift a few copies of Minecraft. I prefer having games with physics that modify gameplay and I'd rather make Notch a multi-millionaire than waste my money on a console port pretending to be cutting edge. If they want to punish me for being a PC gamer, I'm going to go to other games.

P.S., they probably should have taken the Spore Securom debacle as a clue NOT to use 5 activation limit DRM in Warhead. http://www.zdnet.com/blog/hardware/c...ge-margin/1785 Crysis was, as the specs say, a game meant to have sales over a period of two years.

Or maybe they were just looking for an excuse to go to console.

Did any games actually even license CryEngine 2?

    </rant>

I look forward to every new hardware release and every new advanced game. High end hardware works to do all sorts of things, including curing cancer. It's the reason I want to be a computer hardware engineer. In a way, making the next generation of hardware is fixing this world's problems and buying high end hardware and high end software is funding the next generation of innovation.

such heated debate over something no one has played, this is really more of a self sustaining circle jerk.

Like movies based on video games console ports tend to disappoint when judged against PC native games.

So yes, I'm judging, because the stereotype is so strong. There's a chance I may be amazed, but they sure can't let me down.

If Blender 3D is the only excuse I have to upgrade my rig in 2011, I'm springing for Maya.

Pull up some videos of Crysis 2 gameplay on you tube...there is NOTHING cutting edge about it's graphics (that I've seen anyways).

most of the footage i've seen is from the console versions. even with that said it looks good to me.

we're supposed to get a demo soon enough, i'll save my judgment on the game until AFTER i've actually seen it in action.

The more powerful GPU compared to what?

At least Adrian Carmack had this to say about GPU performance in Rage, when comparing X360 and PS3:
"The PS3 lags a little bit behind in terms of getting the performance out of it. The rasteriser is just a little bit slower--no two ways about that."

    Re: Crysis 2

^^^^ My old 7800GT OC struggled to play bc2 @ low sets. I wouldnt brag about the ps3 being based on anything near that.

Also, i think the 360 has better image quality too.

But, they both suck imo. Everything being noob friendly is destroying my gaming hobby.
