    Re: Any Bulldozer rumors?

Why would Asus create an entire generation of AM3+ motherboards and base them exclusively on the 800 series chipset from AMD?
they didn't they just added a wire to the socket that matches the extra pin in the AM3+ and bios support. Amd changed the white socket to a black one to make it easy to tell.

900 AM3+ boards will be demoed late June, and will reach market in time for school sales.

F@H is multi threaded, http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther look down to v6 and get your pass key for the bonus. these are big, advanced clients. 6 cores get @ 10,000 ppd on a 6core@4GHz. you need an intel with 8 virtual or real cores to run the big/advanced, big, advanced units with some god awful ppd.

Get FahSmpAffinityChanger.exe to set affinities at boot (a service), not really needed for new SMP client

If thats directed at me, then you obviously haven't seen my SR-2 build-log thread, or checked out the top producers list on EOC.. I'm quite familiar with the project

I just said that becuase I'm tired of only folding on intel's. I guess i could go out and build a dual Magny Cours rig

OOPs, thought you were the original poster!?!? Sorry about that. Thought Ifinally found out why he wanted faster single core, add in a couple of assumptions and there you go!

Gotcha, my statements about wanting faster single cores were completely separate from talk about using BD as a folding processor. I was just thinking out-loud about ways to innovate single-thread performance becuase thread fusion isn't a real thing for the foreseeable future.

I just want AMD to be competitive again for my uses so I can justify building an AMD-based rig again.

    Yep.

AMD Officially Denies Bulldozer Delay, But...
    ....

Considering the upcoming Computex 2011 exhibition in Taipei, it seems typical that vendors would go on a leaking spree days before the show starts. Computex is scheduled next week on Tuesday May 31st and lasts till June 4th. However, we have spoken with multiple sources in various companies and they're all quite mad at AMD. Why? The reason is a delay of their upcoming high-end processors based on the Bulldozer architecture. This week several rumors were issued from numerous sides. Some of the reports about this are linking to each other in circles, so they are clearly at the rumor stage at this point.

Will wait till e3 and if nothing then I will go sandybridge

Yeah, it doesn't look like a launch anytime soon. I'm guessing late July.

    Re: Any Bulldozer rumors?

Do you think the 'launch' in late July will be similar to the Llano launch with all of the initial shipments going to the system builders followed sometime later by availability at the New Egg and Microcenter storefronts or will we be able to order from New Egg et al immediately?

You're probably bound and gagged by a NDA at this point but with a late July launch on the horizon any idea about when we might see a preview or review?

    Thanks.

If we don't hear anything at e3 or its a delay of more than a few weeks , i'm going to have to go sandy bridge.

Sucks that amd can't get their act together after 3 years of trying to push out bulldozer

Actually, my initial take was that even August was within the release time range this year. June would be a PR coup, but .... I think we will be able to guess more with what happens at Computex

That said, I'm not sure if this is like Barcelona where we were given not only a core with disappointing performance but issues as well. I think this core may be competitive this time and a delay like this is possibly to cut off a billion dollar recall for whatever reason. I'd just as soon not be dealing with a cranky or suspect proc.

Agreed. It would be nice to not have a repeat of Barcelona's little CPU issue, or Sandy Bridge's SATA2 issue again. If a little extra time keeps things moving smooth, then a little extra time it will have.

I have heard no official launch date or who would be getting the first allotments.

We will likely hear some rumors from the mobo partners at Computex, and they certainly will be showing off their AM3+ motherboards in force. So, keep your ear to the ground.

    Re: Any Bulldozer rumors?

Interesting about the chipset. Sounds like running a Bulldozer on an 8-series board won't be any different than buying a new 9-series board??
Bulldozer will be mechanically compatible with Socket-AM3 motherboards but AMD will only officially support the CPU on AM3+ motherboards. To differentiate AM3+ from AM3 motherboards AMD is releasing a new chipset: the 9-series. Functionally the 9-series chipset is no different from the 8-series that it replaces; it'll simply be used on AM3+ boards exclusively.
