    Bad Mem mod?

Hey all, last week I put together a new system. (specs bellow)

The problem I am having is when I press the power butter the fans/hdds spin up, the lights come on for about 2-4 seconds then everything shuts off, for about 2-3 seconds and then boots fine.

I checked to make sure cpu voltage was set to auto.

I pulled memory module #2, tried booting with 4g, same problem.

I then swapped MM #1 for #2, so it was running on #2 now.... went right past it without shutting down.

Is it safe to say something is wrong with mm #1? should I see if newegg will swap it out?

    Thanks!

    ASUS P8P67 DELUXE (REV 3.0)

Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz

From your description it does seem that the ram is the culprit. To confirm this you could run memtes86 to check the memory. http://www.memtest86.com/download.html You'll want to download & burn the iso, it's a bootable disc.

Well I ran Memtest.... it comes up with zero errors.

It did see and test all 8gb.

It seems like its a power issue.

The system is fine on a restart and doesn't have the problem, only on a dead start.

I am going to roll back the asus OC and see if it still does it. I think it did before I even did that though.

I'd try adding a bit of voltage to the modules (2-3 steps above default) to see if that fixes the "cold boot" issue

Well it seems like it has something to do with the OC once I set the Bios back to default it starts up fine now.

I was using the built in auto tune OC on the ASUS P8P67 DELUXE

I wonder if this is normal?

Does anyone else have a P8P67?

is the "autotune OC" software based or hardware based ?

Both? I am not sure... I believe its built into the bios. I guess software. It does have a gui interface.

When you start the ASUS auto OC it jumps up 30% to start, does a restart. Then will add around 5% per test without a restart. I had it sitting stable at 4.7gh running prime95.

But every time you cold boot (even if its been running for hours) it will do the same few second spin up then shut down and restart and boot fine.

When I went back to default bios it starts the first time.

I am thinking that maybe it needs to set something in the bios that requires a restart? But that should save from start to start....

Maybe I need to start a new thread else where to get a few more peoples ideas.
