Help me pick a power supply

I'm always awful at picking PSUs.

This is the draft for my next build:

    MSI P67A-GD53 Motherboard
    Intel Core i7-2600 CPU
Two GeForce GTX 570 GPUs in SLI
    4GB DDR3 RAM
    1 SSD drive
    3 HDD drives
    BD-ROM drive
    DVD-RW drive
    Media Card reader

Case also has this number of fans:
    1x 140mm fan
    3x 200mm fans

Is a 1000W power supply enough?

Per the online calculator putting a system that you had spec'ed out shows that at 90% load, the power required is 996W.

You will need at least a safety factor of 12% or better. Personally, a 1200W PSU is ideal for your needs.

http://www.raptoxx.com/calculator.php Try this one, I've found it to be very realistic. I find that 1000w estimate to be a "bit" high. http://www.pcper.com/article.php?aid...=expert&pid=13

Get a SeaSonic, if they don't make it you don't need it. Check reviews here and at JohnyGuru, x-bit labs if you have 220v power as well.

If you decide on some other brand, check here first, as there are other very good brands and some you should stay away from.

Still very good, some are SeaSonics, and the rest have been very good as well so far.

I wouldn't buy any psu without checking them out at the sites I listed before. SeaSonic makes their own PSU's so that is consistent, but a problem can pop up on any new model. Most all other brands re-brands from a variety of makers, and these can change with a new model #, with the same or similar advertised name.

my calculations are that you need at least 750 watt psu, if you have the $, i would get the corsair hx850...its expensive, but high quality , and has the highest efficency rating of any psu tested by some of the reviews i have read
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139011

there are less expesive, but you get what you pay for...the hx 850 gets excellant reviews

I have nothing to add about the PSU. The advice already provided is adequate. I would add that you seem to be putting a decent amount of cash into this build. Why not drop another $50 and get 8 Gb of memory instead of 4?

Well, I have 4GB DDR2 on my current machine and watching the system monitor on my Logitech G15 keyboard, RAM usage never goes above 60%, even when my CPU and GPU cycles are maxing out on some game or something. So, no need to get 8GB now, I figure.

RAM is easy to upgrade though, so always an option for the future.

I'm not a huge overclocker, so don't care about the modifier being locked.
