Win 7 only boots in Safe Mode not normally.

    Hi,
    My system:
    Windows 7 Ultimate
    Gigabyte EX58-UD3R
    Intel I7-920
    6 gigs G.Skill memory
    Corsair TX650W PS
    WD 500g boot drive
    Intel 40g SSD Gaming

Last night Windows 7 did an update as I was shutting down for the night, next day I booted up and all I got was a black screen and the pointer that moved around but nothing else, I rebooted but just the same result. I booted up in safe mode and got a normal safe mode screen, I did a system restore to the March 29th, (the only choices were the 29th and 30th) but still nothing. Does anybody have ideas about this ?
    Thanks
    Gregory

    Was this update a driver?

All Windows 7 said was that it was Critical Update, took a minute to finish and then shut down, would not boot normally after that. I forgot to mention that the system restores came up the same way, it would start go to Shutdown and back to the Black screen, with just the pointer. Safe Mode would say System Restore not completed and thats where I'am right now.

Last resort or maybe an option, is to do a reformat of the drive and
install 7 as a custom install.
