If I may ask for your patience, I am pretty much kindergarten on understanding processor limitations for certain types of motherboards. I understand the difference between AM2, AM2+ and AM3 yet:
The motherboard in question is an ECS Crossfire KA3 MVP AM2 and I have found the processor chart on ECS for archived boards.
It's a good board for the price even with its limitations, but I wish to know primarily if it can work with a Quad core AMD64 X4 AM2
if I were to use an AM2 quad core just like I am running in my ASUS M2N32-SLi Deluxe board (an AMD 64 X4 9750b 2.4GHz), will The ECS do the sane same and go ahead and operate with an X4?
I am not aware of the stipulations of BIOS upgrades, or even if they are available if this board can even "talk" to an X4. Yet with certain boards and using an X4, I have found that Microsoft updates provides Microprocessor updates at times for some boards, more convenient than trying to find downloads on the board's original website.
Can anyone save us a ton of time and let me know what the limits are?
So far, all I can find is the X2 6400+ in a black edition but it is the same price as the 2.4 quad core (used compared to retail)
thank you and hope I haven't been too long winded to explain the situation
