Opteron Server CPU mobo options

A while ago my brother gave me an Opteron Server CPU (OS1354...). I would like to build a new computer around it if possible. I am not interested in building a server. Are there any mobo's out there that are not server based that I could use this CPU with? I tried looking, but could not find anything but $250+ server mobo's. I wanted something a bit less ($$).

Any suggestions and/or help would be greatly appreciated.

isn't the processor just an AM2+ chip ?

Most of the older opterons worked in consumer boards, I don't see any reason this wouldn't

From what I understand you are right is is an AM2+ CPU. The full model number of the CPU is OS1354WBJ4BGD (off the CPU). My research on the CPU says that it is a 940 pin AM2+ 115w 2.2G quad core with 2mb L3 cache core and stepping is B2.

I was looking at AM2+ motherboards ad Newegg and I when I go to the manufacturer of the mobo's none I have found so far show that the support this Opteron. I have seen support for 12xx series Opteron, but not the 13xx (3rd generation).

I am just hoping there is someone out there who will know.

Looking briefly at the egg, It looks like the issue with consumer boards is trying to find a board with enough wattage to drive the processor...

Most of the ones I glanced at are only 95w max

i'm thinking that when they showed up at newegg Opteron 1354 , there were a lot of cpu choices and that one slipped under the radar. looked to be a clearing of old inventory.

Thermal Design Power (W) ? 115

AMD rates their TDP based on the most power hungry of the type (highest clockspeed etc) in this case Budapest. A 95 watt board would work just fine with that cpu, but I would always get a 125 watt or higher board (I get 145's) as the better power supply not only gives you upgrade insurance, it also lets the board and cpu last longer due to smoother power delivery, capacitors and inductors don't work as hard and generate less heat. All round good stuff for a slight price premium.
