    Very slow processor speed

I just bought and assembled a Gigabyte motherboard GA-MA785GM-US2H with an AMD Phenom II X4 840 processor.

My Computer/Properties resports about 800 Mhz instead of 3200 Mh speed.

CPU-Z issues a similar report, tho it sometimes starts out at a higher number. You can view the output at

    Am I misinterpreting something?

that feature is enabled/disabled in the bios. it revs up when under load.

AMD calls it "Cool & Quiet" feature. As UD stated you can disable it in the bios. If you allow your computer sit ideling for long lengths of time, it would be best to keep it on. It powers up quickly & seemlessly when it needs to be tasked harder so you wouldn't notice it.

It reduces clock speed on the CPU and reduces power usage when idle, also, cools down the CPU, and demand on heatsink for example I think.

It's nothing to worry about. As the others have said it's just AMD's power saving feature Cool & Quiet. Rest assured as soon as your CPU has something to do it will instantly crank back to the full 3200 Mhz.

Maybe the CPU's multiplier and bus speed set wrong in the motherboard BIOS, I doubt it.

Frequency at post screen if it's not one of those manufacturer brand screens will show the max frequency at load. If it's 3200Mhz or close to it, some manufacturers don't get it exactly at 3200Mhz, maybe be like 3206 or something close to 3200Mhz, then it should be ok.

I think at this point we just need to wait for the OP to return.
