    BSOD AT Windows Loading

A lot of you will recognize some of these parts as this is a build I did for a friend with what was primarily lying around.

    Case: BluHaz ReDux's acrylic
PSU: BluHaz ReDux's custom Enermax 400W
    Mobo: Abit NF-M2 nView
    PSU: AMD Opty 1210
    Memory: Corsair CM2X1024-6400C4
    HDD: 80GB Barracuda 7200.10
    Misc Fans, Generic Optical, etc

Initially when I gave to the dude it ran like a top with a mild overclock. First he contacts me that the DVD/CD unit isn't reading. Then he states it is cutting off, after a while it would run for about 20 - 30 seconds and then shut down.

Brought it home to trouble shoot and dropped the oc to stock. Sure enough it would get to the windows load screen and cut off. Sometimes it would restart other time not. Let it sit for a while and it would boot up but then poof. Okay must be the PSU so swapped it out for a similar (+12A) one.

Now it wil boot up and start to load windows, then a quick BSOD and back to the boot screen.

    Suggestions???????

Broken another part might be, Master Yoda

Maybe PSU went out and took something with it?

Try load windows on another drive and see what happens. Smells like your mobo is failing. Have you visually checked to see if any of the caps are bubbled up or leaking?

He said he was having problems with the cd/dvd. Disconnect that first and see if it boots. If he was having problems with that before the blue screens I would start with that.

The time between BSOD and reboot is too quick to see the info.

As far as the cd/dvd when I gave it to him it was recognized in bios. When I got it back it was still seen in bios. He could not get it to read anything.

Right now it is sitting on the floor in the corner 'til I have time to review all suggestions.

load a fresh copy of windows on a spare drive hooked to that pc. something may have got corrupted with the original os. if it starts acting up again, then we have another hardware issue other than just the psu.

If it is doing the same with the second PSU would that not let the 1st unit off the hook if the os does come across borked??

if a fresh install works, something still corrupted the os. as always, process of elimination.

one of those multimeters that we've been bugging you about getting (for how many years?), might have answered that question already.
