Freeware solution to restore iTunes library from iPod Touch

I did a reformat and forgot to copy over my iTunes folder. I don't have any of my files, luckily, they all exist on my iPod. I want to copy them back over to my PC.

After lengthy research, all the solutions I've come up with have been limited use shareware programs requiring purchase, or manual solutions for old style iPod classics (enabling as a hard drive and copying it over).

The obvious answer is to open it up in My Computer and copy the songs back over, except that's hidden by apple in the newer iPod touches, and therefore inaccessible.

I'm knowledgeable about this and refuse to believe there's not a freeware solution.

I've had to do this awhile back on my iPhone.

I understand that you want to get the media files from your iPod back on to your PC via iTunes?

If that is the case, it is doable via by using and FTP connection (via your wifi) to connect to your iPod. Somewhere in there will be all of your songs, but IIRC, the files will not have thier correct names, so you'll have to listen to each file to determine the song title. It's a lengthy process, but it might be what you have to do to get your songs back.

There may be other methods out there, but this is the one I used. Now I can't tell you what you need to do specifically because the process varies from model to model, and OS version to OS version. So what I suggest is find out this info, and search google

I also recommend downloading FileZilla for this, but any FTP client will work.

Still looking for a fix Buu ?

    I use this http://www.jriver.com/mj/

Just get the jukebox version NOT the media center version

works in place of Itunes...you can copy your music back using this program and then install itunes, and re-sync if you wished

Yes, I could rename all of the files but it would be far too tedious.

I was unsuccessful with all of the free solutions listed, it seems apple has made it increasingly difficult with the newer iPod touches.

I bought CopyTrans for $18 and it worked perfectly.

    Thanks everyone.
