Athlon 64 x2 6000+ and HT Link frequency

    Hi
    First off, intro:
    AMD Athlon 64 x2 6000+ 3.0Ghz
    MSI K9A2 Platinum (FX790/SB600) (800Mhz FSB)
    2x2GB Kingston DDR2 800Mhz
My HT Link is on AUTO in BIOS, and CPU-Z shows 1Ghz.
    (thats x5 multiplier i think)

    So here's my question:
Should the HT be on 1Ghz? I read some forum posts where people claim that pushing the HT up to 2Ghz will improve performance. I can raise the multiplier manualy in BIOS. Should I try this? Is it safe? Will i actually get better performance with this?

    Thanks

    actually you are there already.

    AMD A64 X2 6000+ 3.0GHz Retail

scroll down the page a bit in the specs and you'll see:

    Bus Speed: 1000MHz (2000 MT/s)
here's a screen shot of what it should look like with cpuz.

    Oh, so i just mis-read i guess... cause all of the 1000 Mhz = 2000 Mt/s...
And am atm at the ideal HT Frequency for this CPU (not overclocked)

    Thanks a lot

here's your board with a phenom II that then would show 2000 ht link. this 925 is oc'd which i have lowered the ht and then raised the htt.

yeah you have to keep one of the at 2000. i can't remember which. but you can raise the other one so you get high speeds. i don't know how the math works but auto setting on my asus m4a785-m w. athlon 64 x2 4800+. ive pushed to 3.0 ghz at 240 fictional "FSB"

I usually leave HT at defaults for stability, you wont see a performance inscrease. Focus on core CPU and RAM timings.

you would oc the 6000 the same way that you did the 4800 which would include lowering the ht to x4. you can also lower the cpu multi, mem divider and tweak the ht back up for the perfect oc.

OT here, what are you using for cooling? I would also like to get my 925 to the 3.4ghz range.

    CPU: Phenom 925 X4
    MOBO: BIOSTAR A870U3
    MEM: G.Skill Ripjaws 4GBx2 1333
    VGA: GTX 260
    PSU: Cougar CMX 700
    HDD: WD Black 500GB

just about any 120mm upright cooler will do well as long as your case isn't too narrow. some have a clearance problem with tall ram but using slots 3 & 4 will do.

    120mm

    cooler master 212
