antec p182 stock fan replacement
Hello all,
I have an Antec P182 case. I have been running with the stock fans since I bought the tower in 2008. The combined fan sound level is starting to bug me.
I have in the tower :
mobo : Intel DP35DP
cpu : Intel c2d E8400 3.0GHz (wolfdale)(stock cooler)
gpu : Palit Geforce GT 8600 1GB
psu : Antec True Power 650W.
hdd : 250GB 3.5" Seagate (boot/os), 3x 500GB 3.5" Seagate (Raid-5), 200GB 2.5" 7200rpm seagate (work/scratch drive)
Cpu Idles around 38C
I was reading a post on newegg.ca for a user that replaced his stock fans in his Antec P183 case with Nexus 120mm fans that run at 1000rpm. Is 2 of 1000 rpm case fans enough to exhaust for what I have in the tower?
He replaced the 2 stock P183 fans with 2 of these :
Nexus LED D12SL-12BL 120mm Blue LED Case Fan
RPM: 1000 RPM (+/-10%)
Air Flow: 36.87CFM / (62.61m3/hour)
Noise Level: 18 dBA
My soul purpose, is to quiet down the p182's overall combined fan sound output.
I have another tower an Antec Sonata, that runs much more quiet than my p182.
that has :
mobo : gigabyte GA-M78SM-S2H
cpu : AMD Athlon 64 x2 5000 (Brisbane)(stock cooler)
gpu : on-board
psu : seasonic S12 Energy+ 550W
case fan : Enermax Marathon 120mm (1000rpm)
hdd : 500GB seagate 3.5"
cpu in the sonata idles around 36C and is more quiet..I can't hear my sonata box running unless I am within 0.5-1 foot of the tower (sonata on the floor).
any thoughts on the p182 stock fan swap-out? I know that Noctua is more or less king for silence..those also cost more. Tho..if my intel stock cooler is another culprit of high fan sound output..I might change that to a noctua cpu cooler NH-C12P SE14.
Update : I put in the 2 nexus fans..the sound reduced only by a bit, less noise than the stock 3-speed fans that came with the P182..now I at least have blue mood lighting from my tower.
